loz180691
I have just relocated my battery to the boot and was wondering with the metal base in the engine bay can that be cut out to tidy up bay?
Flaminsam
Metal base? I don't think they have a base as such as the battery sits on top of the gearbox mount in a plastic tray? Do you have a picture to explain what part you mean.
Socks
If your talking about the little plate welded onto the chassis leg that the plastic battery tray sits ontop of. You can remove it but be careful as your gearbox mount is just underneath!
loz180691
But doesn't the metal around the bolt for gearbox mount support it?
nikhilkamdar12
I would just leave it in mate, unless you are going for an absolute engine bay show build its more hassle than its worth. Even just re-locating the battery and the area it frees up makes it pretty clean as is after a lick of paint
Ollieh17
Isnt it just a few spot welds?
starletezy
Yeah a few spot welds only thing is if you take the battery plate off you will weaken the gear box mount right under it I would leave it alone
Ollieh17
I doubt its providing any strengthing at all
starletezy
That section is what is holding the mount in place mate
Ollieh17
From what i remember the mount sits under the chassis leg? The battery tray is just a skin on top
starletezy
No mate the plate its self is apart of the engine mount its spot welded to the chassis leg and battery plate
Ollieh17
Been a while since i saw one. Inwas gonna get rid of mine but painted the bay before i did.
starletezy
It is possible to remove it but you will just need to make a custom bracket to hold the engine mount
Ollieh17
Some upload a photo of what it looks like. Cant remember for the life of me hoe it goes. But doesnt to me look like the battery tray provides any support
starletezy
Will take a pic of it later for you mate you will know what I mean once you see it
starletezy
Managed to pull out a photo posted on here couple years ago. As you can see when removed the battery tray is partly an engine mount
