Installing camshafts FTE head

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I'm putting the camshaft a back in my FTE head and wasn't sure if I've got it right and need to be 100% certain on my timing. I have all the timing marks lines up, and noticed inlet valves on cylinder number 3 are open slightly. Would this be correct ? No other valves are open. Need a 1/4" torque wrench as my 1/2" only goes as far down as 23 n.m not the 9ft-lbs (13 n.m) required.

I have read the guide on TGTT but couldn't comprehend it fully. See pictures below of timing.

Thanks in advance :)

These light up with the slant of the head.

That bolt needs doing before the cams are removed if youve already done it you can retension it by hand and get a friend to put a bolt in for you. If you dont do it you'll have a lovely rattle from the top end lol

Cant help with the timing aspect though im affraid.

timing looks good to me kid

take out the in cam and use a flat head screwdriver to retension the cog and fit a matching drill bit in the service hole

Thanks lads big help as always

Will retention the cog when I get a 1/4" torque wrench as my 1/2 inch only goes to 23n.m :(

Also debating whether or not to do valve stem seals. It would make sense whilst the head is out but involves buying another tool ontop of the numerous specialist tools I need to finish it..
