Would changing worn rings change the sound of the car?

Recommended Posts

Just fitted a set of new piston rings on my glanza, since I fitted a td04 kit it has been smoking, turns out it was the rings causing it, but now the turbo sounds different, it has a lot more of a swooshing noise as it's coming on and at low boost, it almost sounds like a boost leak. I've checked the pipes about 10 times now and I'm pretty sure it's not a leak, could changing the rings effect the sound of the turbo? Anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm thinking now it will have more compression and it's forcing more flow through the turbo

Yes on tic over it will sound more crisp worn out engines sound flatter and lower idle

On petrol engines fitting new rings increases compression thus more air going to turbo spooling faster, spray engine in soupy water and rev engine any leaks will bubble

It sounds like a flat 4 when the wastegate opens. It sounds good and running much better, it does sound like a small leak but I think it's ok, it lags less than before and it makes sense for the turbo to be spooling faster, it sounds like a little jet engine attached to the engine now :-)
