Civic Radiator Performance On Track

Recommended Posts

Wondering what peoples experiences are with civic radiators for prolonged periods of track time?

My current setup will not work with my new manifold and turbo so am forced to either run a custom setup with modified slam panel, or look to a civic radiator.

My car runs an oil cooler, heater matrix delete, as well as a low temp thermostat.

Thanks

The heater matrix can actually help cool the system too as its a mini radiator in effect. So that wont help.

If you get one of the much bigger triple core ones. I cant see you having a major issue on a 20min session at your power level, unless your on track for 50min sessions.

If you are going to have a problem though, it will be in summer in 30c ambients....

thermostat will make no difference on track as itl be open anyway,

civic rads are shit

i found without an oil cooler it would get hot way to fast only 10mins worth of track use. with an oil cooler i used to get about 20mins before exceding 110deg water temp

that was with over 300bhp though.

ive scince gone full face radiator infront of the slam planel and all customer bits etc.

for track use heat control is a big factor, my mx5 has 273bhp, big rad an thermostatic oil cooler (13row) and i can stay on track for as long as i want (45mins ish is my currect record without pitting lol) before the rad and cooler again 15min sessions where the max

It will also depend on the quality of the rad, a £70 ebay civic rad isnt going to perform anywhere near as well as a £200 one. If you look at quality rads next to cheap ones theres a significant difference.

But as golden vtr said full face is better as air will take the path of least resistance and just go around it in some cases
