How to remove standard stereo in ep91

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Just a quick question. Looking to swap my cassette stereo and replace it with a sony single din head unit so I have a usb plug in for my iphone & also a built in amp of 4X 55watt, which hopefully will liven up the sound a little bit.

How do I go about pulling out the standard stereo? I bought a facia off eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361474216924?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I'm hoping this is all I need to get the new stereo in, and that I don't need to do any other work?

Appreciate any help.

Sam

The plastic trim around the stereo and heater controls just pulls out - grab it at the very bottom and pull it gently, it should just unclip. Once it's off you will see some screws that are holding the old stereo bracket in place, just unscrew these and you can pull the old unit out.

I just screwed through the old bracket and in to some pre-tapped holes on the side of my new head unit. I seem to remember that you need an adaptor plug to convert the oem wiring to the standard stereo plugs, but I could be mistaken on that as it was about 4 years ago that I did mine!

Edit: think it's something like this that you will need - head unit should be plug and go from there.

Yeah I think my Sony stereo has one of those so should be okay. Ill give that a go, cheers!

Would you say its worth replacing the speakers? If they are not too much of a ball ache to get to?

There are some screws holding the top of the fascia in first, then you can pull it off. Then the four screws holding the brackets in place.

Ahh ok, the Starlet might be slightly different to the Paseo then.

Personally I think it's worth upgrading them as it's not a particularly big or expensive job to do. I'm not 100% if the locations are the same in the Starlet as the Paseo (I think the Starlet has at least one speaker under the dash?), but if there are front door ones then they're easy to get to. Rear ones might have some trim over but again, not a big problem to access.
