Race-tech bad feedback!

Recommended Posts

I wasn't going to bother writing bad feedback on here but I keep finding shocking work on an engine and manifold combo I brought from Ricky at race tech. I brought a stage two forged engine with a td04 hybrid turbo and manifold also a 40 turbo smart waste gate. To start with when I got the engine I noticed the sump bolts had all different size bolts in... 10mm 8mm and even an Allen key bolt. I wasn't to bothered about that but for the price I payed I'm sure he could have got a few more 10mm? Oh and now after a few mile the sump is now leaking... the head on this engine was an absolute reck! It was leaking oil from the stem seal very bad and later found out there not genuine Toyota stem seals. Also the spark plug sleave had been cut and welded causing oil to leak past the rocker seals into the spark plug hole. I've had to get another head and head gasket and fix it myself at my cost. The manifold was and still is warped... I've got to get that skimmed soon, also I ask for an external gate manifold and he built a standard mani. So he's "modified" the manifold and welded a piece for the external gate to fit on but because it was built for integrate turbo I now have huge amounts of boost creep down to a crap designed mani. The down pipe from the turbo to exhaust did not line up what so ever and had to be adjust by a local exhaust specialist. And while I'm on the subject of boost creep the "turbo smart" waste gate he has sold me after saying I'd get a tial one seems to be fake. Chinese crap by the looks of it, all the clamps are rusty and he told me it was a 8psi spring and it doesn't open until 13psi on a bench test. Beware of these wastegates there are a lot on eBay saying there genuine with all the stamps of different brands etc but do not perform! I'm not trying to slag race tech off but the problems I've had are shocking and have cost me ££££. When I tried to contact Ricky about the oil seeping out of the manifold (because of it being warped) he said it was oil from assembly and it will burn off. Still doing it 100mile later does not seem to be from assembly. He also said it was my fault and it's the rings that are not bed in because I used Running in oil instead of Asda own oil... turn out the rings are fine. Engine now runs fine with a new head and does not smoke although he was trying to tell me I needed a re bore and new rings. I would not recommend race tech what so ever to anyone even if it was a simple service because the workmanship I've seen is terrible!

Don't get me started with my build. Sounds like it's time to contact trading standards my cars been there for over 2 years and still excuse after excuse on the work being finished I will be going to collect it on a transporter if it's not ready this weekend I wouldn't know where to start with my build and someone else in the same position with there car being there for 3 years!!

We shall start from the beginning when I sent my car there picked up due to wiring issues within the car transporter to Ricky. All my own parts supplied (pistons, Rods, wastegate, springs etc etc) build was going ok but more and more added onto the bill as it does with a build then came communication issues which tbh from some one your paying 10k for work on your car were appalling. Ecu supplied by some one on forums wouldn't work on car (although this may just be more lies within lies to gain more work who knows) decided to go DTA stand alone which has now taken 16months to install and still I am yet to have a collection date each week is next week next week and so on. Someone else from Kent sent there car there before mine and still has yet to collect or finish that build it's becoming a running joke. Trading standards will be called today so if there any more horror stories let me know so I can have evidence for solicitors as this is a joke I've paid the guy 8k so far yet had no pictures or evidence of work done.

3 years and the cars still at race-tech wow, what a joke of a company..wonder if Tuning Developments are any better..??

Just take them to court and get your local garage to sort it, chances are they won't mess you around as much judging by the comments..

i'd be fuming if my ep was away for that long!

Makes you wonder & think twice, just being honest.

Things like this gives me trust issues.

I dont like taking my car anywhere unless i have to. I only have one local mechanic i can trust.

Thats why I do as much as i can myself even though it takes me ages.lol.

Never a truer word said!

Hope everyone above gets there issues sorted and your cars soon 🖒

Another bad review!!!

I bought my glanza last month and booked it into race tech for a TD04 conversion. Luckily I saw all the bad reviews and decided not to take the car down. Total cost was £3,200. Sadly I've already paid a £1,500 deposit to the lying bastard. He is now refusing to pay me back my deposit stating the manifold / turbo kit has been custom made. I said fair enough and asked to collect it as he said it was ready hence no refund. He then said "err is not quite ready but I'll push for next week". So I have called Barclays and I have submitted a report to trading standards. Luckily the bank have said if he doesn't contact me by the 13th April they will get my money back. Been to TD since and had a much better experience and getting it all sorted by them at some point this month hopefully.

From my experience he is very difficult to get hold of, lies out of his arse and just wants your money. I think more people should go to trading standards and get this asshole shut down. I also believe he supplies fake components such as cheap Chinese turbos etc. Really saddens me to hear he's taken advantage of so many nice people on this forum just wanting a nice car.

Hopefully we will all get sorted properly ASAP!!

Ben

The only place I'd buy or take my glanza for mapping is tuning developments. Mike really helpful and worth the trip to get parts from. I've herd lots of people saying Ricky was terrible but I thought people was just going over the top. Hope everyone gets there car sorted! I've fixed mine myself now as I only brought a forged engine off him cuz mine had a hole in it :(

ricky how about explaining the build youve had for years lol? two sides to every argument but seeing as this is where most starlet enthusiasts see stuff, it might be a good idea to say whats going on there, and the other accusations on here. anything can be said via a PM but would have thought you would take the chance to clear your name here if nothings dodgy on your part.
