Apart from the usual starlet checks,

Get it jacked up and inspect the 4wd system. Mostly for leaks. If any component has been run dry it wont be long till it fails.

There is a grease nipple at the front of the propshaft so you can fill it up a bit.

Check the viscous coupling in the middle of the propshaft for leaks.

Check the transfer box for leaks.

Same with the rear diff and at the brake drums for halfshaft seals leaking.

Get it on the ground, do some lock to lock turns to listen for any abnormal noises.

And most important, side step the clutch and launch it at 6k rpm and get 4 wheels hooked up.
