Me and my Glanza V

Recommended Posts

Hello to all!

Well i just bought myself my first turbo petrol car ever! I have used to drive with diesel engines in the last 5-6years (bmw´s and couple of other marks too)

but now i decided to go totally other direction with a cars.. The car itself is Toyota Starlet Glanza V from -97. And man, have to say that i haven't have so much fun in the past, like ever with my own cars.

Its just so light, and pretty quick aswell and reminds me why i like cars from the beginning..

It was having some modifications from Japan? (im second owner in Finland, last owner drived only 4000km) The car itself is having now 100 000km on it.

-JAM ECU

-HKS Hi Power Silent exhaust (the last muffler is pretty much out of wool so need to buy a new one)

-Arc intercooler

-GReddy Profec-B Boost controller

-GReddy Boost gauge

-HKS mushroom filter

-HKS Turbotimer

-Some sort of blow off (dont know the manufactuer)

-TRD cluster

-CUSCO rear strut tower bar

-Maybe a better clutch (the clutch was changed couple of years ago in Finland by the import company, but i can´t get the answer from them that what kind of clutch they used :X)

Was hoping to get 190-200hp from it someday, just need to get more familiar with these turbo engines first.. Was planning to lower the car with BC Racing coilovers. Maybe some japan racing wheels too (15-16"). Im also trying to find some new tail lights (from 98 and 99 models), but pretty hard to find with reasonable prices.. by the way someone know if its possible to fit 98 or 99 model tail light lenses to my -97 model tail lights?

And last but not least, i really need a better seats. The sitting position is just so horrible right now, way too much at front (my legs are pretty much in to my face right now and cant get the seat more backwards)

And i apologize for my bad english^^

Welcome along buddy! Get some pictures up when you have time :)

15" alloys have far better results than 16" on starlets and im sure many others will agree 🖒

As for tail lights.... yes they are interchangeable as well as 99% of other parts from a glanza (EP91)

Yeah i was thinking to same about the wheels.. 15" it is. Edit: Added couple of photos.

by the way, what was the original/stock exhaust diameter? i would like to be sure that i really have that hks exhaust from downpipe to the end like the previous owner said.

This seems to be now like 2" or 2 1/4". Was the original diameter way less?

I see there is a Toyota caldina GT in the background, i use to have one of them for a short while

You did see it correctly :D That is the one reason why i ended up buying my first jdm car for now. I might be little bit jealous about that car but trying my best to make my own better of course ;)

Some update aswell: Next couple of weeks im going to tint my back windows and put some new glanza stickers aswell to the car. Little pieces before im getting familiar with the car and the engine aswell. Near future is the chassis and wheels turn the get something new.

Some thinking.. my car is eating alot of fuel ! roughly 12-13Litres/100km and that´s alot with this engine.. cant be normal. Must be something to do with that Jam ecu. There were couple of threads about this same problem and now im trying to figure out what´s my issue.. is there anyway to reset this aftermarket ecu?

Some suggestions was also: first of all diagnostic check (map sensor error maybe)?

leaks in the vacum lines

Fuel pressure regulator (i got standard one i think, how to check this?)

thermostat

leaky injectors

If any of these wont work, any suggestions? And where you peoples have located your mushroom air filters? would be nice to see.

Help needed, which way the thermostat should be installed? I removed the old one but didnt look which way it was on there.. new thermostat is installed now and have a little arrow on it and its now pointing from down to up , also got somekind of jiggle valve on it (its now on somewhere between 1 and 2 a clock). Should be correct right?
