Very low revs on cold startup.

Recommended Posts

I own a 1998 Toyota Stalet SR, whenever I start it up on a cold engine the car almost chokes and struggles to get above 500-750 rpm. If I rev the car gently and hold it at 1000 rpm it seems to go away (I know this is not right as I should let all the fluids flow round but it is the only way it seems) and then I can start driving. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction with what could be wrong? I have searched the internet and cannot seem to find anything.

Sounds like my car after i removed the wax in the throttle body.

I think the na starlets do have coolant lines to throttle body so check them

If thats ok, then the usual rotor arm, dizzy cap and spark plugs etc.

This is an EU model so it doesnt have coolant lines to the throttle body. As for the rest, that will be my job today :)
