Remove Rocker Cover Baffles For Cleaning

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I want to clean up this rocker cover, but before I potentially ruin it, I am right in thinking the baffles are riveted in and I just need to drill out the highlighted rivets.

EDIT:

Looking at this photo, I'm guessing the two middle ones holding the separate baffle plate needs drilling too.

How you going to refit it

Has anyone ever used pop rivets to refit it ??? Will it work ???

Lol, I thought it was rivetted in. Race Tech offer a baffle cleaning service, I figured I would save myself the money and race spec it, clean it and fit coil packs myself. Save time.

I might take Ollie's idea. Or you reckon it could be plug welded back up with a Tig?

I don't think welding would work as you have 2 different materials, the cover is alloy and the baffle is steel.

I drilled and tapped mine and then tack welded the head of each bolt to the baffle so they couldn't come lose. But wouldn't be hard to remove it if I ever needed to

I didn't mean weld the baffle to the rocker cover.

I mean fill up the rivet sections with weld, allowing it to spill over the baffle. Effectively turning it into a rivet.

Drill and tap is a much better option I think. The charade rocker cover baffle comes with screws from standard. 30 years on and none have come loose

Yeah, I can see me not getting this tapped clocked on lmao.

But yeah that's the better option.

Then I can clean it again in the future if needs be.

Cheers Ollie.
