New member with a few questions.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am a new accidental 97 Starlet Glanza owner and a new member here loads of questions any help would be appreciated.

The vehicle I have is a bit of a find and was given to me to repay a debt by my Cousin who was moving premises and had no where to store it.

I have all of the paperwork and import papers and Japanese paperwork but it has never been registered to be driven on the road in the UK. Is this going to be a pain to register?

I am taking it to a specialist tuners next month to get it looked at. I have been told the former owner has said that it was running 285BHP and 11.9 over a 1/4mile (all unconfirmed) To get a car like this looked at possibly remapped and stuff how much should I be paying?

When I mentioned this to a bloke down the pub he said I will need to upgrade the diff because they are dodgy over 200BHP can anyne confirm this. Can anyone recommend where to go to get one if this is the case (I am not surprised if this is not the case as we all know the blokes down the pub are always reliable)?

It also seems to have no rev limiter is this normal any information would be helpful it does have turbo timers etc but god knows if they have been set up correctly or not been fiddled with?

Photos are too big to attach I am afraid.

Thanks in advance for any help.

NS

I am honestly clueless as I said I got this car to help my cousin out I am trying to figure out what I actually have. can you elaborate a bit on ct setup maybe a link somewhere. I tried to search it and nothing came up

It already has no back seats I am planning on sticking some racing seats in it roll cage etc and using it for track days definitely getting it ready for Jap fest at Santa pod next year.

i was looking at a few Posts on here but I am out of my depth really

i got the starlet and trailer for £2k so I think it’s a reasonable deal even if it’s not what he was told when he got it. He swapped it for a motor bike.

I have taken it on a private road and it is scary as hell never driven a small car with so much grunt so guessing the setup is reasonable.

any recomendations on upgraded custom turbo etc will be appreciated

i will thanks quick question and pure coinsidence but one of my mates might have a td05 turbo from his old Subaru not sure if mine has the right engine for this but have seen a lot of people referencing the td04.

Waiting on details from my friend he also has to see if he still has it? Pics tomorrow

Thanks Skiny but I may have a few issues for a quick cringe and the thought of an empty wallet and for the photos requested hit the link below

Looks like a standard ecu

intercooloer is only attached to the hoses

there is a sort of tension bolt holding 2 parts of the engine together I think to add tension to one of the belts

its running about 0.7bar through the turbo

I think my little find could get pricey on an up note picked up a TD05 turbo for £32 as a punt and got a TD04 due to come out of my mates Scooby soon when he upgrades his

Probably only around the 150bhp and you are probably best to avoid td05 on stock engine as they are very laggy and not best suited. Td04 though is a good shout and what most people replace there stock turbos with.

If ya need any help give the forum a shout theres normally always someone to help with an issue

Thanks for the advice.

Just to clarify. So essentially I have a standard engine, turbo and ecu and an intercooler sort of balancing on top.

If this is the case that's all good its makes it a blank canvas and I can start making it do what I want not what someone else did.

I will try that with the Pics

If I don't need it yes Maddox I am still learning here and becoming a youtube specialist

Thanks for the advice everyone

What Colin said lol, the TF035 is the route I'm taking soon enough, everyone said go TD04 but it spools to late for my liking, I done a bit of reading as came upon a thread on here with graphs showing the TF making 250hp and the TD 300hp

I'm not going mad power hunting, just enough to safely whoop my mates GT4 :)

Thanks I am doing research as I go this is my first project.

so anyone know anybody that wants a td05 turbo. Just kidding will use it to learn about reconditioning etc £32 for practice I think is not bad.

i have so much to learn it’s best for me to learn it slowly rather than rinsing loads on new kit and screwing it up.

Thanks for the advice again
