AltiSR
hi folks, half thinking about buying a 4E-FTE engine with accompanying gearbox, wiring loom, CT9 turbo etc. only problem is that it was imported so has been sitting on a crate. there is no video proof of the engine running so was wondering if anyone can give advice and tips on what too look out for on the engine/gearbox etc. anything would be greatly appreciated cheers
Calum122
Engine wise, could probably still run a compression test. But seeing as the engine is already out, you may as well just quickly refurb it. New shells, mains, rings, bore hone, head gasket and cam belt. Literally wouldn't cost much and gives you absolute peace of mind.
maerijn
I also bought an engine which was imported and sitting on a crate. The sump was dented and it had fallen over so the inlet manifold was broken aswell. Also the importer stated it had around a 100k's on it but the timing belt cover vaguely showed a number starting with 2. It did come with 3 months of warranty so I took the gamble and it has been running fine for a year now. When you go look at it check for the timing belt sticker and any obvious damage. Also ask if the importer can give any warranty.
