OK, thought it about time I put a thread up as there's been a few changes to my "bought not built" ep85. :D

Just over 11 months ago i bought Mark's (www.glanza.co.uk) Starlet Soliel L EP85 as I knew it would be an excellent example. Mark had sorted the car with a 4efte conversion so all there was for me to do was enjoy it. :)

Some pics of the car.

As you can see the car came with a good spec and it was no surprise when it made 185.7bhp and roughly the same amount of torque running 0.6 bar on the dyno at EngineTuner.

So over the following months I got to know the car and enjoy the 4wd experience, then around December I started thinking about upping the boost on the standard engine or going forged.

Towards the end of December I'd made the decision to go forged and that I wanted Zisco to do the build. :)

After chatting with Keith we sorted out a spec, a date for build completion and shipping to the UK. B)

While I knew the engine build was in good hands, I had a shopping list of parts that i needed to complement it.

First thing I wanted to sort was the lack of a BOV and the mesh on the turbo.

Greddy Type S (Genuine)

TD04 filter relocation kit

Ziscobuild-56.jpg

To go with these I got a weld on flange for the BOV and a K&N filter.

Next I got an EBC

Blitz Dual SBC Type R

Ziscobuild-51.jpg

Then needed to do something about the management.

Apexi PFC + Commander

Ziscobuild-58.jpg

Bigger injectors were also going to be needed.

460cc injectors - cleaned and flow tested.

Ziscobuild-59.jpg

Also got some EV1 to Denso adaptors for them.

Still had the standard engine mounts, so knew they would need uprating.

Powerflex engine mounts

Ziscobuild-57.jpg

As I only had a Autometer boost gauge I thought it best to get some more to monitor things. I went for a set of Prosport stepper motor/peak series gauges, - oil temp, oil press and fuel press. A single din holder to fit them in the dash and a Mocal sandwich plate for the oil readings.

A pic of them fitted.

Will be getting the boost controller surrounded in carbon.

Ziscobuild-73.jpg

Next up was a new oil pump

Ziscobuild-37.jpg

cambelt kit

Ziscobuild-38.jpg

water pump

Ziscobuild-40.jpg

Also an engine gasket set

Had them sent out to Malta to be fitted to the engine.

While I was getting all these parts together, Keith was busy gathering parts for the engine build.

Some of the engineering work had already been started but with most of the parts in place the rest of it could be done. All through the engineering work and the engine assembly I was kept well up to date with the progress by Keith with a constant stream of pictures and info.

Here's just a selection as there is quite a lot.

Can't heap enough praise on Keith and the guys at Zisco, delivered on everything they said they would. Quality, engine completion, packaging and shipping. Always available if I had any questions, kept me informed from start to finish. It's been a pleasure dealimg with Keith etc and I'm so over the moon with the engine and the fact it was so well packaged it arrived with out so much as a scratch on it.

During the time the engine was making it's way to the UK, I was in talks with my tuner about turbo choices and whether to stay with the standard TD04 or not. As it happens the company he uses for turbos was about to bring out a hybrid TD04, so it was a case of give us a shout when you get hold of one and we'll talk a bit more.

Bang on time the engine arrived and as it was going in the turbo turned up. As it was an ideal time to fit it and I like to be a bit different and try things i went for it.

Unfortunately I forgot to get some pics before it went on but this is the sister turbo to the prototype on mine.

The engine with the turbo is proving to be very responsive even off boost, more so then the previous engine. Not sure what to expect once it's mapped but i'm sure it will be a lot of fun. :D

Running the car in at the moment and it's been during this time I've been looking at what to do about the brakes, whether to go for K-sports, Wilwoods or WMS and get bigger wheels as well.

In the end I was lucky enough to get this kit.

Endless super micro 6 system inch up brake kit

There's a few more little things that need doing but i'll update as and when they happen. Hope you like.

Savage!! Glad you got a build thread up at last bud. simlar spec to mine so will be very keen to see what it pulls on the rr

Thanks mate, just got to wait two weeks for my mapper to get back from holiday. :(

those brakes are awesome..i have the same on my car :)

That's good to know, mine aren't on just yet but will be soon. :)

amazing~! wouuld love to see some videos of this after its run in :)

how much was the forged build from zisco?

what power are you after?

Not really sure on power, just wanted it to be a strong build. My last GT was 270bhp so anything over that would be nice.

As for price..... :search: PM coming your way.

Car had it's MOT today and I'm happy to say it did me proud and sailed through with only two advisories.

Slight corrosion on front to rear brake lines

exhaust noisey (no surprise)

I'm happy and so is my wallet. :)

Nice thread and nice build mate I am very glad you like the end result :)

Just one thing, get a better quality boost gauge!!

I was setting up a mates car on stock CT9 some days ago and I changed the spring inside the wastegate to a 16psi one, but it kept reading 10psi even though it wasnt. I changed the boost gauge and it was spot on then..:)

  • 2 weeks later...

My 4e-fte optional extra MOMO steering wheel.

Ziscobuild-77.jpg

Dropped the car off for mapping this morning and feeling a little bit nervous. Will be picking it back up saturday and can then drive it for the first time in anger.

Then let the fun begin.

OK, a bit earlier then I said but just got the results of the mapping sent to me and if I'm honest not over the moon with it. The cars got a couple of issues now with gear oil leaking from somewhere and it's overheated twice on idle, but I'll see my mapper and the car tomorrow and see what's going on.

Here's the graph;
