Matt1878
Ahh a piston job. Did see this on eBay the other day when browsing. Not saying it is his fault or anything. Did you do any checks with the car before purchasing etc?
parksgt
Feel for you mate can't really blame the guy if it was ok then let go this morning just one of those things buddy luck of the draw when buying used cars
timmy2take
I did do a Cylinder leakage test and it was all good. Just luck of the draw I guess, I'd like to think anyway... I don't thrash the nuts out my cars, had plenty of stis, mr2 tubbys etc. and always been fortunate that nothing catastrophic has ever happened. I think I'll buy a compression tester kit though for future cars. My mechanic is always busy for weeks. Is there anywhere in the South East I could go and get it dropped off and picked up from, that people could recommend if it does turn out to be the piston which seems like it will be? Just a thought at the moment to get it repaired quickly if I can source the parts needed. Edited September 15, 2014 by timmy2take

Socks
It requires a complete engine strip down to change the piston... If it hasn't damaged the bore.... Best bet is to get a replacement engine, go from there...

turbominicooper
your not the lad on fb who said he was going to buy a car that's running 230bhp on standard internals and was asking for engine advice, of which most said run it on low boost. name was William?
timmy2take
No not me. I'm TimmyI did read plenty of people rrunning 1 bar of boost around 230bhp on standard internals so I thought this would of been ok. Still not sure which way I'm going to go with it. Can't see any engines for sale at the moment. (No offence but it's hard work looking through all the for sale ads, why not just have a traders area and a private sales area?) (No offence but it's hard work looking through all the for sale ads, why not just have a traders area and a private sales area?)Some thing has gone a miss I've been running 233.4 for about 2.5 - 3 years now and it's been spot on. Just shit luck I'd say
aaddzz123
I too ran 242bhp without issues on stock internals. Breaking pistons is a known weak spot in the 4efte although I still put it down to fueling... I'd consider stripping it and replacing the piston if the bore is okay. However the easiest option is to buy another engine.
5e colin
x2 for this unless you want to go forged/more power Phil if he is lucky and its only the piston then it can be fixed in situ sump off head of and replace i fixed a few local that way still going strong
Calum122
Damn that's annoying Hopefully you can sort it. I bet it wasn't a cheap motor either :s
