Looking good man! Loving the GT4, you got any more pics to share? :p

James

The gt4 is a long long storey mate!

Its Pickey009 old car which he built it then went to a mate of his and then the engine failed. it sat for a few years then i bought it. Then it set on fire and almost took out my whole garage and has very close to the tank going up. it was a fire engine job.

heres the car on its way to me loaded up very carefully!

then back in my garage

and 2 days later

20140512_090328_zpsxtgsze6w.jpg

almost everything from the windscreen forward was blown up, melted destroyed ect.

20140519_214328_zps39iob4ad.jpg

Then the rebuild started, i big shout to my mate stee who painted the front end of the car, i prepped it but he didnt even want anything for it. i think he felt sorry for me.

I also did the back end

20150301_145709_zpska912vvp.jpg

Getting to this point was the worst work i have done on a car probably, weeks of prep work went into with with a grinder wire wheels, die grinder ect it took ages, it got rust treat ment in the odd places, then epoxy primer tinted body colour, then all seam seealed with Upol seam sealer, then Upol gravitex stone chip then more epoxy primer and then 2k body colour on top which is what it looks like now underneath.

20150722_210452_zpsaj5xinyj.jpg

All the back end is rebuilt with polly bushes which is alot on a gt4, all powder caoted, tank refurbished, new fuel and copper nickel brake lines with 316 stainlesss union nuts ect

basically how it sits now. up and running again just some bits and bobs to do before the mot.

a fire engine eventually got it out!

both were believed to be jam units and was even brand new never fitted and in a jam box from japan. they do look different to stock ones slightly. Strange though. I just got 2 big shiney parcels for the starlet :D

Not much changed on this really just clocking the miles up daily on it.

I couldnt hold off any longer and fitted a fmic and relocated the air filter.

No cutting of the bumper, fitting it was a bit harder with the auto box being a beast with the dip stick cables and stuff for it in the way.

The car is going better and is now hitting fuel cut on the high boost setting so im driving on the low boost which seems to be only just under fuel cut. I need to get the emanage on it and a map.

picked this up - not the best condition but i havent seen one in a long time.

This was spotted in a local scrap yard.

and it had to give up the only part of a paseo worth having, so i went and rescued it before it went to China.

5e or no e 8)

Thats about it really, its been living in the garage the past few weeks out of the weather as the gt4 is with a sprayer for a fair bit of work. Its great to drive the car out in the moring for work and its all dry and not icy cold.

Nothing exciting going on here but done a few bits n bobs to the gt.

Ported the blitz decat as there was a big lump behind where the wastegate arm opens so it couldnt fully open.

Box of goodies.

IMG-20170519-WA0004_zpsszr6ynih.jpeg

lower arm bushes for when i fit the anti lift kit

IMG-20170519-WA0009_zpsdmwyyjjr.jpeg

I fitted the new rear discs, pads, wheel bearings, cleaned and greased all the sliders up. I had to swap one of the calipers as i couldnt get the piston to wind back and the spare one was in much better condition so easier to swap it.

Cheers.

I also noticed the backbox wasnt looking so good last week so i quickly patched it up and took the dent out of it. i used some new 3" 316 exhaust pipecut in half then flattened and shaped to the curve of the box.It was thicker than the old stuff so should help protect ita bit should it get bumped in the future.

Nothing pretty but it will keep it right for the MOT in a couple of weeks.

Yeah shes still going no issues other than the exhaust rotting through near the backbox.

20190105_131046_zps6fhcccot.jpg

So i made a new bend up from 2.5" stainless, tack welded it in place on the car. not the best job as it was a bit of a rush repair. There was also a few holes in the pipe. hopefully i can keep the 5zigen system going a bit longer yet.

Getting the bend somewherenear to what came off

IMG-20190105-WA0006_zpsbjfyhjrv.jpeg

offering it up on the car checking position of everything and making sure the backbox sat where i wanted it to and nothing was catching.

20190106_153954_zpsma3nkyfp.jpg

out of practise with the tig ive done very little in ages so it doesnt look pretty im afraid.

Oh yeah i fitted a new wepr ct9 power up kit a bit back but forgot to update this thread. its a great bit of kit. Sacha makes the best manifolds you can get for these cars for sure.

the new wepr kit has definetely freed the car up a bit and im no longer boost creeping and hitting fuel cut so thats good. Not aiming for anything but i have a complete plug and play emanage ultimate kit for it that will need mapped but i just never got round to it. I would probably run 1.1 bar and see what it made. Maybe i ill get it fitted at some point.

Good work on the ep82 purchase! you wont regret it. I cant see a build thread for it, have you made one yet?

Few little jobs ive done recentlyu on EMO.

My distributor was leaking oil and slowly getting worse so i swapped over to another one i had spare. I then came to bridge the diagnostics pins to lock the timing to set it with the timing light but for some reason the revs didnt lower and sit at 750rpm like it should.

I deceided to check the iacv incase it was full of crap. When i stripped it down i found this.

The copper disc on the right was broken, i have no idea how long is had been like this but then it clicked in my head that when the car was sat at idle the electric windows were really slow. This was because of the extra load placed on the car but the idle control valve wasnt doing its job or raising up the revs to compensate for this.

Luckily i had a spare iacv as well so i stripped that down and it was still intact. All these spares ive been saving over the years are slowly starting to come in handy!

I got the other IACV fitted, fitted the better condition dizzy cap and rotor arm, adjusted the timing andi dont seem to have a leaky dizzy any more.

I also fitted a new set of Mintex 1144 pads ive had for a while in the garage as i knew they were getting down. I fitted the old set 4 years ago so they have lasted well and i think they are a great setup for me for the roads i use.

Next job!

One thing which has really annoyed me about the car for about 2-3 years now is that the fuel low light is on constantly.

I decided to pull the fuel assembly out of the tank in the nice weather over tha bank holiday weekend.

46744990405_d33b92560d_z.jpgFuel light fix by Bean Beano, on Flickr

I dont think this had ever been removed since fitted at the factory as the protective rubber sticky strip was still over the fuel pump wiring, the bolts all looked untouched and the car was still running the stock fuel pump. I checked the filter and there was only this tiny little patch of debris on it. Nopt bad for 27 years of filtering.

47660651581_d56b7ee950_z.jpgFuel light fix by Bean Beano, on Flickr

The tank was mint inside and i run the car low on fuel all the time so no issues there.

So this little metal cyclinder is what causes the fuel light to come on when your running low. it works by containing a thermister inside it and the temperature changes or something when in and out of the fuel in the tank causing the light to come on. So i measured the resistance and compared it to another i had from when i rebuilt the gt4 fuel tank with all new hardware. The gt4 one looked right after a little google search of what it should be but the starlet one was obviously dead. So i desoldered the starlet and gt4 ones and swapped them over, then removed the ring terminal from the starlet one, soldered it on, heat shrinked it and connected it back up.

and the replacement soldered back ontop the part which holds it in place.

I also cleaned up the wires which are used to give the fuel level with some electrical contact cleaner. and connected everything back up.

I also gave the top of the tank and fittings a good spray with some light grease just to protect it all as it was in really good condition.

And now i can go back to playing my favourite game of fuel light roulette as the lights off.

Really happy with this little fix as the fuel light has annoyed me that it didnt work but having not had the problem before i wasnt sure what it was. Im guessing all these cars are getting old now so these sorts of issues will likely become more popular. If your light doesnt come on at all it may also be this issue i think unless you have a damamged wire.
