StuDoc 72
Can anyone recommend me a good paint for painting the engine block. One that has been tried and tested that hasnt flaked or bubbled with heat. Im not bothered about how good it looks I dont need an amazing looking block just one that looks clean and not brown lol. Ep82gi
Brush on hammerite works every time buddy.
StuDoc 72
Just the regular stuff? You never had problems with it bubbling or flaking due to the thickness of it?
Ollieh17
I used engine enamel, didnt do alot of miles but was fine. Was thick and good quality made for the job. Heard brushed hammerite just flakes off after a while
StuDoc 72
Well thats what I've been worrying about. All the stuff I have read has actually said the thinner paint the better as thicker paint only makes heat dissipation more difficult and thus causes the paint to flake due to extreme heats. bucketep91
I've got brushed hammerite on mine, never bibles or flaked. Just give the block a right good rub down and degrease before hand and it'll be grand!

Sparkythestarlet
So just normal bog standard metal hammerite paint? Would this be good for brake calipers too?
StuDoc 72
Yeah bruv
Calum122
No one went down the powdercoating route then?
daniel_g
No one went down the powdercoating route then? And then wonder why the oil is 50% powder coatings
Calum122
And then wonder why the oil is 50% powder coatings Why's that then? Plenty of people powdercoat their engines. Chap on my forums done his cylinder and head.
Ollieh17
As long as you keep the powdercoat on the outside it would be fine. But i wouldnt trust it on the inside, had the probkem recently. Ive known hammerite to be shit. Id go for a decent meant for purpose engine paint. At the emd of the day the starlet is only gonna piss oil all over it

RobSR
never had an issue with the spray on hammerite on the block
Cattanach
Brake caliper paint!!Used it to paint my head silver and it's been fine for 6 months!
MR-2
Old school VHT is always good choice, failed many times with spray Hammerite and caliber paints. Even brakes normal 2K paint is best. Have powercoated brakes and valvecovers, that is first very cool, but when crackin starts, it's a nightmare.
