ep70shark Posted December 7, 2015 Share Posted December 7, 2015 Hi guys, Wanted to smarten up the parcel shelf on one of my EP70'S by re-upholstering it with thick brown cord fabric and thought i'd put it up as an informational for you guys Whats Needed: * parcel shelf (duuuh)* old upholstery from same shelf if you have it but not essential* fine sandpaper i.e p600* sharpie* fabric of your choice* gloves* builder's mask or equivalent* spray adhesive i.e Bond-It* scissor (worth having a pair of proper fabric scissors so as not to ruin your fabric)* clean cloth* clean work area Ok so we're set to go....................................... First ensure you have a clean and tidy work area. Then sand down your parcel shelf being careful to remove any old glue residue and other nonsense that will prevent the adhesive from doing its job. When you have finished the sanding WIPE DOWN YOUR SHELF AND REMOVE ALL THE DUST/SHAVINGS/CRAP or whatever else you want to call it. Clean is key here and there are no shortcuts really. Now lay out you fabric UPSIDE DOWN and (option 1) place your parcel shelf upside down on top of it and firstly draw a rectangle around it to get ride of excess fabric as it make it flimsy to work with or (option 2) place your old upholstery on top of your fabric and draw a rectangle then cut around it. With your rectangle carefully stencil out your upside down parcel shelf or old upholstery, adding an extra couple of inches for leeway. Place your shelf on your work area upright and align the fabric the right way up ensure you have all the edges and corners lined up properly. Then fold the fabric over a couple of times toward yourself. Next shake the can of adhesive and then from a distance of a 20cm, spray from the middle of your parcel shelf left and right, spreading out the adhesive evenly. Wait around 2 minutes to allow the aerosol to evaporate and then unfold the fabric carefully, placing the fabric down flat but not pressing it down. Press down on the middle of the fabric/shelf and ensure it adheres. Then slowly work from the middle of the shelf outwards, carefully pressing down into the bumps and crevices the shelf may have. When you have pressed and adhered the top of the shelf and are happy with the result, carefully turn the shelf with the fabric attached upside down. Now spray the edges and small corners and crevices of the shelf with adhesive and adhere the rest of the fabric over by folding over, slightly stretching, negotiating corners and pressing down. When you are happy and everything is stuck on properly, leave to dry. When it has dried out completely, you may trim off excess fabric on the underside whilst being careful not to start it peeling off. If this occurs then just spray some adhesive and press down on the offending area. Thats it folks Quote Link to post Share on other sites
