  1. Will the 1.5 run ok with my current 1.3 ecu? It's an ep 91 n/a. Started burning oil and engines coming out, I'll drop in a nice reconditioned 1.3 n/a but if the 1.5 is a simple enough swap I may as well go for that? I have a 1.5 availible with the ecu and loom, just wondering if anyone has done it and how it went, what they had to change etc.
  2. So I was Planning an engine swap for this summer anyway but that's been brought forward as my worst fears have been confirmed today, after 200k it's time for a bit of work or replacment NOW haha. It's just began drinking oil the past few weeks, probably valve stems or rings. Anyway, I was thinking of trying to find a low milage N/A starlet and doing a straight swap but if Im going to spend some money swaping engines is the 5E engine an easy swap? Also the reason for swaping engines and not just cars is the chasis is to good to throw away and also I love the thing lol, if I do even go f
  3. Looking for a bonnet, in black would be awsome but anything considered. Cheers.
  4. Had the cap off and all looks clean and nice, getting a bit now dark so I don't want to go further without doing some homework, all looks very delicate. I'm sure I'll find my problem, just such an unusual distictive noise before it went.... like a worn bearing or spinning part. I will have a further look and thanks again your info is invaluable.
  5. Yea my first thought was the alternator, water pump and power steering but ruled then out. I was thinking mainly about the distributor so that's good to know what goes on in there. Also I've put on the 5efe inlet manifold a good few months ago, after my starter went a while back, thought I'd change it over while the old one was off doing the starter. I do remember having some difficulty getting the earth wire on to the new inlet manifold, would problems there causes the sound I'd heard before it no not sparking? I'm sure I used so cried method getting the wire on as I had no bolt for it? Than
  6. Hi, basically my Starlet started making a whinning/whstle that grew louder after a few days driving, almost like an induction or turbo sound. It's a N/A, has had the timing belt done recently and all the pullys and belts are ok. I went to start it and whatever was failing went, now there is no spark to fire it up. I'm just curious to find out of any rotational parts that spin with the engine that could have made the noise prior to it braking, the noise which definetly matched the engines speed when it was running. Inicialy I suspected alternator or something in that region but now the
  7. Looking for a reverse bonnet scoop if anyone has one spare for sale, cheers.
  8. Thanks for the heads up, Ill be getting a good service done and engine flush and spending a little on what engine I've got then improve handling and sort out the few dents and dings. I'll check out id-workz in the mean time thanks.
  9. Just bought my first jap car and first hatchback in a long, long while lol, went from a Land Rover Freelander to a 1998 5dr Starlet 1.3, don't ask how that happened but I couldn't be happier with what started out as a run about to now becoming a full on daily driving project. I'm totally smittin with my wee Toyota. I'm needing a new bonnet and looking for a good source for parts both standard and aftermarket. The exhaust was blowing so it's been fitted with a full subtle stainless steel, I plan on improving the already surprisingly grippy handling. Lowering spring's, struts, rear antiroll
