Here is my imported Japan-only TRD 14R, a road going version of the TRD 14R60 track car, modelled on the TRD Griffon that lapped Tsukuba in 0:58:407 with only aero and non-engine related mods. It has come with a few mods on it, the dealer-added TRD wing, LED light upgrades in the interior, feels like a TRD short shifter and i'll add anything else I come across.

After over a year of ownership, I have finally got the first few mods on the car, and also uploaded a youtube video with some how to's on there - please take a look if interested.
In the first video I have done a walkround of the car and installed the following, (TRD oil cap, rad cap, fuel cap, gear knob, document holder and Perrin boot closer), which I feel like the car should have had anyway!













and if anyone can help me find one of these, please let me know

Bit bored today so thought i would start a topic of a build Diary for Project 'DeathWish' as im sure some of you might be interested. I think this is probably the best section to put this into as it doesn't really come under any other section, not really a glanza/starlet although i am butchering almost a whole one to make this thing.

History:

Car was bought by me and a friend last February (2008) off of ebay for £1158. It was originally owned by Essex council and was part of a project to keep convicted chavs off the streets and give them something constructive to do. Needless to say it was a mess!

The car came with loads of bits, most of which we didn't need and everything had to be stripped down and started again as nothing was done properly. It has been given new brakes all round, new brake lines, rebuilt 998cc engine (now getting changed for 4EFTE) and so on.

About a month ago my friend decided that he doesn't want to do this project any more and i have bought him out and now own the car myself.

Its currently being built up for the new IVA inspection and will hopefully be on the road sometime later in the year, hopefully late summer!

great car, i use it every other week for work.

I had always loved the gt4's and when i heard about this one me and my mate planned to go halfs on it fix it up then sell it on for a few quid. But after getting it back and realising how much work it needed i thought it would be better if i kept it and pottered about with it getting back on the road eventually.

So we got the car loaded up from the previous owner





a cheeky stop off at the top of hartside



And we made it back in one piece and got the gt4 tucked up in its new home next to its old friend



So far things that need sorted

gear box is trashed!, i think its been ran dry on oil
all brake seals need replaced
hand brake shoes have little or no friction material left on them
no toyota badge on front which was soon sorted.
it was absolutely pitted so i cleaned it inside and out, clayed it then waxed it and polished the glass,, this took ages but what a difference it made



i started stripping the back end down to sort the brakes and the other problems i would come across



turned out both rear bearings where no good so after a bit of a fight i got them out

i ran my tig welder round them and they came out no worries



one of the bolts was seized into the bush so i had to cut it off



Ive also sorted out a few electrical problems with the car and got the boot closing and the catch had no springs on it, and issues with the fuel flap stopping it from opening.

Still lots of work to do but looks like ive got a good 30k mile gearbox on the way shortly. Ive got parts ordered to sort the brakes except for the rear brake back plates which looks like a trip to toyota again. Looks like this is going to be a money pit i think.

Time for a little update and some pics. ive not had alot of time to work on the car as theres been some building work going on in the front room which was more work than i thought.

i got some parts.



i stripped and rebuilt the rear calipers, fitted new pistons and seals and sprayed them.





the front ones are painted but ive not got round to fitting the new pistons and seals.

I got a set of rear hubs in much better condition than mine and some polly bushes for the back end. Big smokes was checking them out when i opened them



I got the rear diff and the whole subframe out yesterday


bit of a mission with bolts snapping and seized in but i got there in the end



i got the diff off to give it a check over





and some of the other parts off, all pretty rusty. im thinking about getting the lot powder coated, but i need to get a price first.



my exhaust has a really bad rattle so i checked it out and turns out the flexi is snapped



and the front section is an old mild steel 3" item (aussie??) which doesn't look too good so i bought 6m of 3" 316 stainless and some 90 degree bends to make a new front section to fit the blitz nur spec system. A good excuse for some practice with the tig.



I finally managed to get hold of a gear and transfer box. apparently only done 30k miles! and has sat in a garage for the last 6 years. hopefully its as good as it sounds.



i don't normally bother with aesthetic type parts but i seen this carbon dipped centre console so i got it. i also had a TRD gearknob left over from the short shifter i had on my starlet turbo so that found a new home too.



Also at the weekend i got my girlfriend to pick me up some new extra tall axle stands from machine mart in Carlisle £92 which i think is a bargain



i hate messing about trying to get at stuff under cars and fighting on with jacks, blocks and bits of wood to get the car high enough. so these should help. i would like a little scissor lift for the garage though.

Now i just need some more time to get the work done...

And thats about where im up too, except i got the new aerial fitted so that goes up and down now like it should

. i need to get cracked on with it. but i have no power to my garage atm as i have just had my front room re wired in the house and how my garage received its power from the fuse box was very dodgy so its been disconnected until the wiring faults can be found and then it can be connected up correctly though a breaker and the rccb so no lights or sockets even.

Here's a couple more pics guys. I've gave it a quick scrub it was ready for it. And made a start going through the front suspension to replace anything which looks tired.

I've fitted a new bottom ball joint and have new track rod ends to go on. Also took the ds caliper apart cleaned it up and sorted out a seized slider and greased them up.

Just waiting on me lca bushes, drop links and some other bits and bobs to keep it right.





I will be giving it a good clean up underneath and some protection.

The engine bay is a right mess painted red with a brush.










The bonnet raisers will be going When I get chance.

Having finished the porting and polishing of my TD04 it has been my privilege to be asked to carry out some major porting/correction work and polishing of the intake and exhaust ports as well as the top of the combustion chamber. The car is owned by my brother in law who until recently has been working for my father in law restoring classic cars as a business for many years.

When dyno’d this engine was making over 350 hp at the rear wheels, with a completely ruined clutch. To put this in perspective these engines would normally produce around 150 hp. The rev limit currently is around 8,000 however the engine is strangled by the heads and has in the past suffered from valve bounce which is a common problem with these. With upgraded valve springs and titanium retainers this problem can be eliminated.

The engine in its original form is far from standard and to say the history behind this particular engine is interesting is an understatement. The next post will give a brief run down of this and a bit of the spec as it came out of the Leyland factory. 

There will be many updates as I progress through the work on it. I do have some photos and spec to post, however the next write up from me will be the history behind this and the story so far.

To start off ive never owned a road going motorbike, just a couple of suzuki RM125's

Starting with this one, something like an 84-86 i think it was, basically it was a pile of shite with the wrong engine and welded frame, never ran but had fuel spark and compression and i sold it on.

Then i bought this 99 rm125 about 13 years ago. it ran ok but not quite right but was all there and in not bad condition and was a decent price. I still own this one but the engine is in bits.

So after never been interested in a road bike i spot this little honda no on facebook just a few miles from my house.

I went to see it with a mate and a trailer, it wouldnt start and looked a bit rough so i left it. then over the weekend the old guy messaged me a video of it running. So i went back and got it. he wouldnt budge on the price but he did give me loads of other spares from another older nc50 he had stripped for parts.

I got all the electrics working on it, and starrted taking it out at night on private roads, it was good fun but mega slow, but each time i went out it seemed to get a little faster. top speed after i fixed the speedo seemed to be 24mph uphill.

This turned into a project between projects as i was sick of working on the integra and shitty jobs, i enjoyed messing with the scooter as it was so easy to work on and hardly any parts make it up.

i fitted a new bigger battery as the old one was dead and causing the healights to blow as there is no voltage regulator. I also refitted the airbox with a new filter i ordered from japan.

i took the side casing off and stripped it down as it had been painted gold and when petrol spilled on it the paint washed off and looked a right mess.

This frame came from a guy and he stripped the bike to make a bit of a custom bike using its engine. It was used as a pit bike at Silverstone i believe.

just thought I would post a few pics of my current car.

2017 F30 335D

really fancied the M performance kit from factory but I unfortunately wasn't a fan of the Matt finish. So I went about ordering a full Carbon fibre M performance kit, which arrived a few days later.

I then decieded I really wasn't happy with the factory exhaust, so I got my new exhaust made up Which looked like this. (New diffuser fitted also) 

So I set about getting a new exhaust as I really wasn't happy with the above ^^ 

I then headed up to USC (Santa pod) in the diesel for a laugh with a few of my mates. We thought it would be a good idea to put it on and see how well the oil burner could do. Car managed a 12.3 which was pretty impressive for a derv! First time at pod also 

Some of you met me at the show last week, I brought up loved Corolla GTi. Since i've been browsing on the forums, i've noticed you have a project thread page... So I thought i'd post up my cars restoration I took it through around 3 - 4 years ago..

The story started when I was 17 and I bought a very rusty old 89 Corolla GTi off a friend, unfortunately due to a lack of money and experience I sold it too a scrap yard and ever since then I haven't wanted any other car... So when I got married just over 3 years ago I asked my wife if I could buy an old Corolla GTi as a weekend toy... I also promised her I'd find a mint one for £600 that needed no work doing to it.... Bahahahahahahahahaha

This was the first time I had ever done anything like this, and would do it differently when I come to sort her out in a few years down the line, but I really love the car, and taking it apart and putting it back together just made me love it even more!

So enjoy the story!

The car when I first bought her.

First few things I had to do, was mainly strip the car out and start taking note of all the MANY holes it had around it, also when I bought it off a very kind dealer it had, 2 bald tyres, a smashed windscreen, all 4 arches were a different colour and the entire roof was rotting.

The rear arches were gone beyond repair and also once taking the rear bumper off too I found some nice treats that needed to be sorted.

Notice in the next picture there be something odd looking about the rear quater by the brake light... I uncovered a nightmare tbh!

Unfortunately it looks like A LOT of water had gotten between the mouldings and the glass, and because my old garage had no power I had to take all the rust and crap out by hand with sand paper... It did take a long time and was very, VERY tedious.

New rear panels ordered and I was new to welding... eek

So as mentioned previously, when I started taking away this side panel, it became obvious that the previous owner had made a god awful attempt to patch it up.. and the car had been in a read shunt at some point. Mad to believe all these little gremlins I found.

Got me some wings from the toyota dealerships! ohh my god!!!

Its had alot of work done to it and really is super clean, which made a nice change compared to my glanza. Nothing rattles, no wires are bodged together no screws and bolts are missing. It seems everything works from the start, brakes are alot better than the glanza, the handbrake actually works, turbo doesn't shit itself with a few breathing mods. It handles better being IRS and lightweight with factory roll bars and underside bracing, So far I've fallen in love with it far more than I ever did with the glanza.

Plans? well it needs alot of work. need to do some welding, repaint alot of things on the car. currently has a bigger turbo. Its alot quicker than 85bhp. It flys down the road. So will be getting emanage for it, map it, new fuel pump, bigger front brakes as it comes factory with standard uk spec brakes which are tiny and solid discs. so its scary. Also feels like it has an uprated clutch.

its currently on cut springs so will be getting some uprated kyb shocks and lowering springs. The seats need a whole retrim as well.

Already bought a set of wheels for it! some old school compomotives. going to look cool on the car. Please note there is a 4th wheel

The car is amazing to drive so smooth and quiet when you need to be but has a little grunt of noise once you put the foot down, the interior is a lovely place to be with cruise con, heated mirrors, aux, usb etc.

Handles itself better than the Corolla by far even with winter grips on the front I was genuinely quite surprised because of the hate it gets for not having independent rear suspension like the ep3 mine is a later model with LSD don't know how much of a difference that would make in the real world. Unlike the Corolla aftermarket range is massive, already got a nice carbon fiber mugen key case and spoon gear knob and I'll buy some more goodies on payday.
