It depends where you live, the amount of paint shops in the local areas, how much work they have etc. 2k is a fair price for a blow over!

As I said, a blow over isn't what I had in mind. Expecting a blow over not to be a concourse respray.

I ain't knocking it, I am literally saying that's a good price. Compared to the 5K I've been quoted.

1k for cheap jop, for 2k you should be getting a top job,  5k bloody Ridiculous. Only small cars, I've been getting quotes for my roof to be resprayed 1ao silver  base coat then lacquer £250 and front bumper £150 rear £150, does a top job to from seeing there work. Dearest quote I got was £350 for one rear bumper which I thought was too much.

If you just want it red then a gloss, doesn't need lacquered. shop around I reckon you can get that 2k down a bit more as long as you see what work they do And your happy go for it.

Get rid of the custard

Well he could have fed me full of bs but he said don’t bother if you wanna race it you will also need new panels bumpers etc so better to save it for maintenance, parts and tyres he did himself out of a job he could have just said yep 2k which given how tired I am I may have said yes.

That was literally a rolling shell quote dash out seats out engine out

Wasn’t aimed at you NS, was aimed at the guy saying it would have been a shit job, as it all depends on the business. There’s a local place to me who would do a blow over for £1500-£2000 and his work is impeccable. But he’s a one man band so less overheads that a several person workshop etc.

Lol I don’t even know what a blow over is I am naive as can be on most of this especially the body work I will look at body work for aero dynamics and down force for handling if power to weight ratio dictates

I just want to drive her and race her! Honestly I appreciate any feed back I get and I do take it on board but emoji if she is red green yellow blue or white won’t be a show car ever.

The next things I need are spare set of wheels and a lot of time learning how to drive her

the person I got the quote from At the 2k I can give you a number for if you want it but that’s a price gutted trailer dropped off etc

Hahahahaha you’re not naive dude, just learning!

A blow over is when you paint the outer bodywork, door shuts, boot shut with the same colour as the car is already. Sometimes a colour change can be done but the inside of the car and engine bay will remain the original colour.

I know the feeling mate, I’m having to granny my V around as she needs mapping and I don’t really wanna put my foot down until it’s done!

Mother issue I’m having is finding the time to fit the new turbo (old one has blown the seal so I get a smoke screen on boost, which is why it wasn’t mapped before!)

CANT BLOODY WAIT!

PS Emoji is becoming epic!

Thanks jay I really am naive when it comes to this stuff I can drive had advanced driving courses etc for places like Iraq etc (that was fun had to do jay turns reverse up around courses being chased etc) but when it comes to modifying stuff I am absolutely clueless.

the quote was definitely not a blow over any colour I wanted was the option and it was me doing all the prep work rolled off a trailer. if anyone wants to speak to them it’s ipswich vehicle refinishers if you need an interpreter I can help :D

well after all the fun yesterday totally forgot I have loads of new toys turning up today i think from tuning developments

Anti lift kit

distributor cap

rotor arm

22mm front arb

Still on the shopping list is well everything else apart from a rear arb which is currently in the boot of my bmw could use a spare set of wheels if anyone has some knocking about and any tips on what to do with my rear window wiper it’s a waste of space and looks buggered and it’s additional weight

That's just what I was quoted. That included any bodywork repairs. But there isn't that much that needs doing.

I'd be well happy to pay 2K to sort my car out to be fair. But I just want a proper job done on it.

@Jay85 I didn't say shit job, just not concourse. All dings removed and body work fixed for 2K. Paint rubbed back and sorted, and all new seals and what not. Surely the seals alone are going to cost you £1k so you're effectively having the car resprayed for 1K.

MD Performance...jokes.

It was a Ferrari Specialist over at Andoversford Industrial Estate. Not Cotswold Restorers.

I appreciate people will find it pointless to spend more than what the cars worth getting the bodywork sorted. It ain't about the money, although sure if I can get it done cheaper I will consider it. It's about getting a quality job where the car isn't going to rust where it's been sat in a forecourt with all the paint off.

I may give you a buzz though Ollie cause obviously 5K is a little more than I would want to pay for a £1600 Starlet...

Lol you are more than welcome to join me up at brands hatch but the parts certainly don’t need fitting this is testing me and the car first and get a lil bit of practice hopefully she makes it in 1 piece this will be her longest journey so far and my first time on a track  so I will ease her into it what’s 21 in car years? Is it like dog years and you multiply by 7

Heres a progress update I prepared before I did it because I hate my computer when I get back home for the first 2 weeks after 28 days in front of a PC

So the next 10 days the normal return home clean and charge, praying the new leads fit my power pack courtesy of Amazon, lots of unwrapping and hope my pre planning has worked and everything has been delivered and its all correct I had a rethink on seats and harnesses for now more on that later.

Some of the little stuff will be fitted immediately don't expect pictures.

Here's a sneak peak of something I know is waiting for me

That's a beautiful tread pattern. Thanks Jelly Baby, mate you saved me a lot of hassle with sourcing these and thanks in advance for fitting them.

They get fitted on 27th This really is also the furthest I will have ever driven her from my house and the furthest she has been under her own steam legally since she was put on the boat from Japan. Its about 19 miles each way to Colchester (I have got AA Cover just in case but not for the drive to Colchester).

This will be the first time I have even seen under her properly in 10 months of ownership, other people have and assured me its in good condition but I was never able to be there when it was off the ground.

I will measure up for the breaks using the templates Keri from WMS sent me.

592467869_275mmCaliper.thumb.JPG.1b79dc351eb1eb29cca8a3017db09c10.JPG

That's not to scale he sent me scaled ones for the break types I am interested in.

At the same time I will check out what sort of suspension she has on because I know its not standard but cant find it any where even on RHD Japan from the tiny part I can see its probably just after market shocks and springs from the last decade some time.

All of this for the shake down at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit to see what comes loose, falls off, ,leaks or explodes on the 28th (This is why I have the AA cover). So the 150 mile round trip and 4 hours at the track the very next day is going to be a real test of how the maintenance and repairs have really gone! Jelly Baby is kindly coming with me with his tools and helping me out. This is open pit so no lap times will be recorded I may try recording it we will see on my performance if it gets shared.

Assuming she survives and gets back without AA assistance. I will give her as good a clean as I can before JAE she's no show car but I will make a token effort for the club. This will be the first time I have done any more than getting a drive through car wash on a car myself. I used to pay for proper Valets on my old Alpina but not worth it for Emoji (yet).

Then its fingers crossed I can blag some good deals at JAE and get home safely again.

If I arrive J.A.E in the BMW you know it didn't go well at the track. If I arrive on an AA truck I survived brands hatch but did not make it to J.A.E. If I am walking the BMW is buggered too, I look forward to seeing some of you and your cars on the 31st with or without Emoji but definitely with a beer in my hand a tale or 2.  Wish me  luck any tips are appreciated.:drinks:
