Hi guys, decided to start off a thread on my Starlet just so you guys can get updates and laugh at my stupidity and problems I will encounter in the future. :)

Currently don't have too much planned for it other than I'm waiting on a radio adapter for my cables since the new radio won't plug right in yet and the old one off my celica which I wanted (has touch screen and gps 😮) doesn't fit the plastic trim when I try put the console back on 💔.  (keeping the stock cassette player in the boot just for nostalgia and if I sell it I can bring it back to stock still)

Then waiting on my hub rings to see if it fixes the alignment issue I've had since swapping the wheels (which sadly rub a bit on the inner side on full lock). Once I receive them either in a few days or next week I'll also give a look at a knocking noise I hear sometimes which you guys already helped me in where to look for.

Down the road I'll be doing the brakes since they're gonna need replacing soon. I've never done drums though, are drums easy to do? Probably gonna watch about 5 tutorials so my monkey brain can comprehend lol. I felt about putting a pic of the Celica too as I'm gonna miss that thing. :) I'll be checking out your threads too and learn useful info

Thanks guys. So here goes the first story of my noobness, I just got my rings today. 56.1-54.1mm, I was gonna do the rears first and do the fronts tomorrow as the sun is really hitting hard rn in Belgium. But my rings seem to not fit fully in the wheel if you understand what I mean. The tip of it fits the top layer of the wheel bore it seems like but when I put it on the car, there's like a gap betweel the drum and the wheel? Tried to get a photo but really not sure if it's any useful for you guys. I did both rears anyways and did a test drive to the shops and back and I haven't noticed anything unusual but it has made me a bit para lol. I'm assuming I got a size too big from 56.1 I should of gotten 55.1? I don't have any vibrations anyways without them on but my alignment is a bit off so was hoping this would fix it since it's only been off centered a bit when I put these wheels on. I really need to learn the most basic of stuff like this sometimes...🤣

I also checked the rear shock absorber to see for any leaks and checked it was properly bolted on from the top and it seemed like it was so next I need to look at the panhard rod

Also just to update I've done an oil change and sparkplug change just now, no pics of it as I wanted to get it done asap with the bad weather lol. Got my local garage to fit me my new rear shocks too for £30 which I think is a very fair price? shocks were also only £21 each from autodoc on sale which I'm loving about the Starlet just now cheap everything is for it lol. Noticed some of the pics i shared in the top of the thread have become url links instead so here's a pic of it as the other ones are gone for some reason :)

Decided to tint the windows and sunstrip to make it a bit darker and look better imo as well as a sunstrip to help with the low winter sun :) Currently trying to replace my doorhandle after I somehow broke it when casually opening the door...🤣 and what a PAIN is it to do the last bit, gave up the other day currently using tweezers to open the door, any tips on getting the damn flip over the metal rod? I really can't seem to do it especially when you put your hand somehwere you cant see.

Another question I was thinking about asking, would an exhaust be of any use for this? As in do they sound horrible with one? I know a lot of these types of cars wouldn't sound good, I'm not talking about cheap ebay ones I'm thinking about going back to C+C exhaust in Glasgow that did my Celica, since I'm really tempted on getting a turbo conversion done I suppose it would be needed?   video of when I had my Celica should be attached to this

Just waiting on a set of wind deflectors too but could only find front ones, I've seen starlet with rear ones too, would anyone know where I could get a set of rear ones? Thanks :)

Also thinking on changing my belts as they often squeel when I'm idling with the brake pedal pressed in for some reason

Small update, decided the blown bulb behind the dash that was supposed to light up the 0-30mph needed changed as its been months I couldnt see my speed at night, went and bought blue led's but kinda ditched them and just bought standard as I quite like the green, what an absolute pain in the ass it was to unplug as I didn't know you had to unplug the speedo cable from the gearbox to be able and pull it out, spent an hour fidgeting with my fingers behind the dash to try and unplug all the clips and then the dreaded speedo cable, nails were sore for the whole day 😂 Boy did I not know the worst was to come when I tried to plug the speedo cable back in...spent ages trying to find a way to plug it back in, braved it 2 days later again after people in starlet society on fb told me some tips, managed to slip my tiny hands under the dash with the speaker cover panel off and plug it back in eventually...next step is to install the new heater blower I've ordered as mine just gave up on Friday, installed the win deflectors too which helps the look of the car but don't think I've got pics yet. First pic is a flooded road when I was out on delivery, only pic with the blue led's
I've also been thinking of the idea on getting an exhaust but I'm really not wanting it to be chavy, it's mainly just to look better and just have a little bit of sound. Seen this Starlet get this setup in a place in East Kilbride and wondered if the owner is on here and had videos on how that sounded like? I've got to call Toyota too as I just got a letter about the recall for the airbag too, on a 22 year old car 😂

Another 5 door. Same as mine.

Nice work as always.

Quite useful 😂 was a nightmare getting out the car all the time in my last car

Thanks, hopefully get my new heater blower soon, takes forever in the morning to red rid of mist and ice atm without it lol

Thanks, I'll have a look, one thing I've had with the car since i've bought it is a tapping noise when I put the engine under load, always when I "floor" it in low rpm's or when its higher up the rpm's, essentially whenever more load is on the engine, I was thinking it would be the injectors? Kind of hard to get a video of it happening as usually my phone just captures road/engine noises, it sounds like a rattle like noise except its not

Currently waiting on new clear lenses for the indicators as one of them that came was cracked but I'm also waiting on injectors off somebody to hopefully fix the annoying noise, I've never done this before so I just want to clear up, the fuel rail, do I turn off the pressure with the sort of bolt that's located on the side of it on the right side? Or is there a fuse for it?

Also postponed replacing my heater matrix as I'm lazy and its somehow got its act together now most of the time, so until it breaks... 🤣

Changed my fuel injectors earlier after I got a used set delivered, all simple and easy to do but I've managed to drop one of the rubber guards into the engine bay and when pushing my fingers down to get it I managed to push it out of sight and reach...would I be okay driving without it anyways? I'd imagine its just there to prevent dirt getting on the bolt thread? Just waiting on my clear indicators to arrive too🤣 Next is to get it booked in for it's mot next month, get to see my wonderful dog in the bottom of the last pic thinking its food for her 🤣

Hello, been a while since the last update, just updating the thread a bit, recently got another oil change done, got the airbag recall done last week by Arnold Clark who wanted £120 to replace my door handle as they're typically half broken lol... ain't happening. Managed to find a set of bubble reflet lights too for a pretty good price and lastly last week replace my discs and pads as they were at the end of their cycle basically, but when dealing with the front passenger side I noticed how stiff the guide pins were, grease was no help. Brought it to my mechanic quickly in the hopes he'd manage to free it up which he did but it still seems somewhat stuck as its still half seized so I went to have a look at replacement calipers but they're £55 new off Autodoc so wondered if anyone knows where to buy just new guide pins and rubber seals before I go out and buy a whole caliper :)  Also got clear lenses put on the indicators which helps freshen up the look a bit. Dunno if the bubble lights make the car look rice or not though...they look decent in person imo but when taking a pic at looked not all that good 🤣 Passed my mot in january too and when dealing with the oil change had a look under the car, chassis looked very clean for a 1998 imo, dog loves the car too as she can sit in the parcel shelf again unlike in the Celica 😂

Sounds like some good progress, but I can't see the pics on my phone or laptop mate.

Hmmm that is weird, I sometimes can't see certain pics on the pc either but I can for the moment, I'll try re-posting them on here then hopefully works now

Nice one dude, she's coming along steady. What do you have planned next? I'm on the fence about the reflet lights personally, I've just bought a pair of the normal style so I can chop and change, I guess you can do the same now too!

Depends really, I'm debating on getting another starlet but a 3dr and to use that one as the one to do up with lowering springs etc and keep this as a daily or get another Celica again for the weekend as I do miss my old one a lot. So I probably won't spend anything much on it atm apart from maintenance stuff. Maybe refurb the alloys to get them painted into gold or get a set of smaller alloys if I do lower it. I was gonna get an exhaust but there is an annoying rattle when I accelerate hard that it just wouldn't be worth it, it sounds like fuel injectors but I replaced them a few months ago (with used ones but idk) so until I get that sorted probs won't put an exhaust, seems to happen in low and high rpm's when its heavy under load, if I don't floor it it won't do it...seen someone selling a roof spoiler for it in the same colour as mine but managed to convince myself out of it for now. The lights are a hit and miss for me so far, it might change with time, at night they look great when they're on, and in person it can look decent too but there are angles especially in the photo where it lookes ricey imo so debating....will probs keep them on just cause I recently got them would be a shame 😂

All sorted, pics showing.

I'm fine with the lights they're an upgrade from stock which is a 👍. Lexus style lights are ricey (if people remember them!)

I think they're actually Glanza 98 spec rear lights (grey plastic, bubble lenses) as opposed to starlet reflet lights (red plastic, bubble lenses)? Not really my area.

I'm sure Toyota or maybe even eBay have the replacement caliper sliders, use an online parts catalogue to get the part number, then start googling. Sometimes its a nice surprise from the dealer, sometimes its scary how expensive parts are, doesn't seem to be any reason either!

I think I know the Lexus lights you're on about, I seen some too lol, I'm not sure on the difference between the reflet and glanza so I'll just say you're right 😂 I managed to find on Autodoc some sliders with rubber boots so hopefully should be all good, had found some on Ebay too but wasn't sure if the Glanza ones fit the N/A calipers which apparently they do too. Thankfully didn't need to ask the dealership for parts :D think Autodoc wanted £11 for them then had to pay for delivery £8
