I got two questions. One is about the exhaust picture regarding Glanza V. Why are there two types of attach to the engine? I thought there was only one type of engine. Probably is because of the difference between the two transmissions?

Second question regarding the picture with the belt sets. As my Corolla mount the air conditioning compressor, I should probably get the Glenn’s of the belt set with the belt for the air conditioning that I will adapt on my Corolla compressor. Is that correct?

For Toyota genuine parts most people use amayama: https://www.amayama.com/en

Very thankful. I went to check out all the parts they should buy and I found the most critical parts that are better to be original. Spark plugs and other bits can be OEN. I’ll buy the fuel pump you told me about on eBay. The rest on tuning developments. This will be in January though. We’ll figure out what will happen with import taxes.

I need to figure out which water pipes to buy or if I will have to customize them for my radiator. I checked the code and starlet and corolla radiators are the same. The only difference might be the distance from the radiator to the engine because my car is different. What do you suggest? Should I buy the starlet original pipes or are there pipes that I can adopt?

i’m going to post some pictures that show my front right and left engine to show the water pipes and the manifold area. On the left side you can see the AC pump. I would like to keep my pump on the 4EFTE but need to make sure the bolts distance is the same so that Glanza belts can fit.

have used them in the past and they are very good, genuine parts.

It’s cool that you get the parts from Europe or those you don’t find here come straight from Japan. Apparently taxes are included. I don’t think I have to pay anything. I bought parts before from the US and taxes were included and managed by the company.
check out my list of parts that should complete and engine refreshment. The fuel pump was too expensive. I will buy it from The websites you pointed out.

Hi Frankie,

Good list of parts there

I don't know how it works in Italy, but in England when we buy from countries outside the E.U. we have to pay Import VAT (20% tax to the UK government), and also the courier in England who will deliver the parcel also charges a clearance fee to arrange the customs paperwork.

Hope Italy has less charges!

Same here. We have 22% VAT (iva) and 6/7% border taxes, that depends on the item category, value and quantity. That means around 30%. Experts suggest to tell the seller to put all the items information on the box to avoid delays at the border.

I'll get looking at wiring diagrams now.

Canada is nice. I’ve played in Toronto once.

looking at the last details before I purchase the engine. Should arrive from Japan soon.

I took the pictures to check distances between the Corolla gearbox front mount and the 4efte cat to understand spaces. Was also figuring out the Corolla AC pump encumbrance.

I never seen the 4efte engine with the AC pump. The 4efe AC compressor main liquid pipe exit is very close to the 4in one exhaust. If you look at the 4efte you’ll see the same pipe almost touching the turbo.

Does this mean that my AC compressor will properly fit the 4efte? The AC comps are identical. Apparently :)

great picture this. you can see that the cat pipe on the 4efte will foul the front gearbox mount and the front to rear cross member.

loving all your research so far keep it up ill get into the wiring as soon as i can.

hope you and the family are well and are getting ready christmas.

I'm not sure on the AC fitment we don't see AC in the UK on the pre 2000 vehicles alot.

There is no Starlet Glanza V with AC?

i read on an Australian forum that the AC mount holes between 4efe and fte on the Starlet are the same. The compressors look different but hopefully the share 2 holes. Size should be fine as both have the exit pipe right next to the manifold.

I still have to clarify how the car will react to the ECU swap. I didn’t study the electrical part but I presume that the ECU controls the engine. What controls electric windows, immobilizer (door opener), light, defrost, windscreen wipers? What I am not sure about is what controls the rest of the electric parts in the car. Fuses and relays controls all the internal electrics? Is everything are going to work when I switch to ECUs? AC has it’s own chip such as the map sensor under the hood. What else?

Thanks

@Sam44 @Claymore Hey guys. I was wondering what the procedure to change the 4EFTE timing belt is? does the valve cover have to come off or can it be done only operating on the side of the engine? Thanks

Most of the "official" workshop manuals say to take the valve cover off. But most of the guides I've seen on the forums / internet the cover stays on and you only need to work from the side.

With the 4e-fte out of the car on an engine stand it will be very easy to change compared to when it is installed in the engine bay. Don't forget to change water pump and most likely oil pump as well as the crank seals etc....

You might want to check under the valve cover anyway when you get the engine, you can check the shim clearances to the cams and also check that the camshaft lobes aren't chipped (See RoyalDutchies build thread). Also it will show if there is oil sludge and varnish showing how well it has been maintained.

Not too difficult.

Just don't scratch the crankshaft, oil pump or sealing collar or it will leak oil.

The front seal comes off with the oil pump when you change the pump so is easy to install after the new pump is on.

There are special tools to remove crankshaft / camshaft seals with the shaft still in place.

Much easier / cleaner and safer than the old "sheet metal screw and pull technique"

Yeh the 2xweeks off over Christmas and New have been nice, and much needed. These guys really enjoy Christmas over here.

How about your self, I hope you and family are well and have had a good Christmas & new year.

It was good thanks. A bit worried about the geopolitical situation. Brexit is pain in the b now that I have to purchase parts from the UK...got a new idea for the Corolla. You'll tell me your thoughts!

Here I am with a crazy idea.

4efte swap matched to 4efe gearbox in a Corolla vs 4efte (my default project) or 3sgte swap matched to a 7afe 4WD gearbox/tranny. I found a rare Corolla 4WD that has been sold only on the Swiss and Australian market for 2000 euros ish. I spoke to a guy in Germany that owns a AE115 with 3sgte. He said that the tranny holds the torque even if it should be for 110 ps. The option is to buy a GT Four ST185 or ST 205 3sgte with AWD tranny and rear subframe.

What do you think about it?
