4efe & 4efte gearbox casing exactly the same????

Recommended Posts

Are the outer casings exactly the same? Basically I have an n/a gearbox that im going to strip, chuck away the gears and clean up and if what I think is true build up my dog box inside it but I just wanted a bit of confirmation from you more knowledgeable folk beforehand :D

Thankyou muchly :)

Awesome, thanks lads :)

I will have to check with TD as to wether its an N/A box or not for definite............ would the 5th gear cover on a mk1 gt box be pressed steel do you know or aluminium like the later 4efte casings?

the only reason I ask is because the box I had was consisted of a 6 bolt diff inside which I found out either came from an N/A or mk1 gt box

A 4efe, 4efte non LSD is the same. The diff housing is not the same on a LSD 4efte box. It is bigger. Thats why you can't put a standard LSD in a non LSD box.

The end cap is the same, just in steel and alloy.

yes the ratios are different in the n/a box if anything I would say shorter you would be changing gear a lot faster, thats how they get the performance out of smaller engines there is a chart some where with all the ratios for all the boxes on it.

This is what Jay posted some time ago!

Gear ratio data

All figures are taken from official Toyota source material that is sitting on the desk beside me here. I apologise in advance if I have made any errors.

Can I put a manual 4efe flywheel on a 4efte that came with a automatic flywheel? Using the 4efe Corolla E11 gearbox on a ep91 4efte.

I am trying to figure out if the 4efe manual gearbox C140, C150 from a Corolla E11 (that is matching a 4efte from a Starlet Glanza V ep91) has the same transmission as the C56 that matches a 4efte manual Glanza v. I want to put in a KAAZ 1.5 LSD transmission. Anyone? @Jay @Claymore
