TrisK's TOMS MK1 GT - Wheel-y big update

Recommended Posts

So a few more bits have been sorted on this

Fuel rail and injectors were fitted

Then a run up on the standalone, had to adjust some vacuum lines after this:

My friendly neighbourhood welder Kieran went about sorting out my power steering bottle for the Saxo Conversion

0sJEBXz.jpg

Fitting machined up

Then he got his weld on, his work is beautiful

mzAizzi.jpg

And here it is in place in the bay, a perfect fit:

vxuR9AH.jpg

Then we got the front end back together ready for a road test, here is the car with my sidelight conversion

R1xQkvv.jpg

Heres a video of it working

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlcXfmj1NJw

Here is everything back together, with some serious help from Flint and Kieran as usual

wxI1dxcg.jpg

and just before she went out for her maiden voyage on the new turbo and ecu

IJZ0tKT.jpg

Kieran doing some last minute tweaks to the map, mainly idle and acceleration enrichment changes

DGmz9eb.jpg

And out and about on her first spin, this was a mid drive stop to check for leaks or noises or loose bolts. everything was good!

9K1Eq50.jpg

All in all the first drive went well, and she is pretty fast despite only being at 0.85 bar on a fairly worn TD04. But i am happy with it, few more tweaks and a bit more testing to find any weak points and shell be ready to come apart again for stage 2 of the journey!

Ok time for an update, its a big one

So this arrived and went on:

lC8DFpt.jpg

So that went one, boy does it feel good

IyVq7I4.jpg

The methanol injection kit arrived, this hasnt gone on yet, but it will be soon, but i need to plan a route through the interior, which youll see why shortly.

fXULQ7s.jpg

The new wheels arived and were test fitted

O3RNxVl.jpg

PWRSZLW.jpg

The rear axle came off the car

rWVRPsp.jpg

and we made a ghetto spray booth for Kieran to paint my rear bea,

DwycKpZ.jpg

The rear beam was attached with the new ultra RARB

TayPey6.jpg

The final rear axle plates turned up and the final bolt together happened

25aXLDj.jpg

OL1hywi.jpg

it all went back together with a brand new brake set up with lines, discs and pads

5DR0jHO.jpg

The wheels can then go back on, with tyres and with the new shimmed fitement

oIDJ4c9.jpg

VCCbh1B.jpg

U85P5xf.jpg

It was then time to start work on some special stuff for the interior, so the drill came out:

dRFXtcm.jpg

and the cage started going in, this was originally a cusco 4 point, but an extra diagonal has been added with tube from customcages and joints order from cusco in japan (the joints are eye waterinly expensive, but i wanted to keep it all authentic)

VUAA94q.jpg

the harness bar was added, and it in the process of having the upright modified to work with the cage

HEhW8A9.jpg

The front is currently under progress with a set of Cruise style wings being bolted on

InfhcEz.jpg

but theres where we are today, as always massive thanks to Kieran and Flint. This car wouldnt be anywhere without you guys

Also thanks to my mate Jordan who is helping with the front wings as he is a panel beater by trade. Definately who you know!

Next plans are to get my new clutch in, and get the methanol hooked up. Then its some mapping and sending everything off for paint

Okay, so biggggg update

WMS brakes went on:

20180302_175110.jpg20180228_160004.jpg

Gearbox, flywheel and clutch went in, went for a ORC 309D, the silent with the little springs, but it still rattles its twat off. Also got a new gearbox, which is a GT box with a Cusco plate LSD in it

IMG_20180304_142342.jpg

The uprights for the harness bar were fabricated by RobH (as I/the other boys were running out of time)

They came out on time and on budget, so if you have any little jobs like that that need doing. Rob is definately your man!

20171215_200149.jpgIMG_2117.JPG

A little bit of mapping happened, just to get the car drivable. This is only at 0.8 bar, so is fairly  respectable figures. Eespecially to say the timing hasnt been touched yet

20180216_225904.jpg

I had to call in some massive favours to get the wings painted at short notice!

Then the reason we were in such a rush, i used the starlet as my wedding car. it drove me and my best man to the church, then my wife and I away. such an awesome memory for the car. and means I have the wife on board with letting me keep it forever! win, win!

IMG_20180622_131111_266.jpg

Then whilst it was together, I have driven it a few times and instagramed it a lot. Still working on a few other bits and bots, tablet headunit, extended wheel studs, more mapping at some point and paint will be happening soon

Ps, also trailing some MK2 lights, not sure how i feel about them. Think i might go back to Mk1. Opinions?

I love the wheels! What's the dimensions of them and did you have to pump the guards at all?

I am looking at some 16x8 Rota Grid V's for mine, but sure they'll fit without issues

Great to see such a substantial update buddy! Car looks superb and liking the details around the harness bar etc! Excellent work!

And getting it into the wedding??? Kudos to you young man, kudos indeed!

Phil.

Cheers Phil, I try and provide enough detail for people to think about how they could use some of the ideas!

Keep the MK1 Rear lights Trisk. Nothing against the later lights as  I think they are brilliant, but MK1's are, IMO, the best looking 4th gen Starlet made, and that's me coming from a Mk3.

Other than that, chuffed about you using as a wedding car, really cool!

They are 15x8 et20, with a 5mm spacer at the front, so effective et15

Custom rear camber, cruise wings up front and heavily rolled arches at the back.

they definately didnt bolt on

I'm currently running the glowpanel with MK3 lights and it looks well, the only thing bothers me about it is they don't sit flush, I've mint condition MK1 rears there but can't bring myself to fit them now, I wasn't that fussed on the MK1 rears to begin with but have grown on me over time seeing them :unknw:lol

Congratulations on the wedding and keep the insta porn coming:thumbsup:

Love this Mk1 GT...

Is it tucked away in the Garage or what's happening too it..

Its mostly been tucked up in the garage, although as Nick said I bought a new house so have been busy with that

however, there are a few updates for the GT

I opened up my set of Mk2 lights

hdvtItN.jpg

With the help of one of my friends we shaped Ally backing insets to mould the back of the lights to a flat shape

4MCxb6v.jpg

Then i got my fiddly solder on

orcECZk.jpg

and we end up with something like this:

I4D6ezj.jpg

I want to get some diffusion pannels to get rid of the LED dotted look and merge the colours together to make them more fluid, although i havent touched the lights in around 6 months.

Also, my new wheels turned up:

IZ83Mw4.jpg

9wSrcyr.jpg

Custom speced work SP1's.

Test fit went well

Also the EP3 went and a I bought a new "sensible" daily
