enots
Realised half the photos of the build had disappeared due to stupid photobucket links so I've just spent the last hour re uploading them all 😂 Anyway.. ** UPDATE 7/2/21** One of my quadlights has always had a broken bracket, never really bothered me but it was never bolted on securely and this time round I've told myself I'm doing it all to a bit of a better standard. So I picked up a spare headlight but it needs the glass swapping, haven't got round to that bit yet but had it all bolted back up today and have fitted some better quick release bumper clips. Probably the first time in a good few years that its had all its panels/bumpers/lights on at once so I pulled it out of the unit for a little spin around the yard and to grab some photos. Rear bumper is needing some repair work due to a boost pipe popping off not long after I originally built it and destroying the bumper so excuse the scabby back end but though I'd update with some recent pics. Anyway. Plan is to find some smaller wheels and shift these ones. The 16s have never worked properly due to the tire size etc and I don't particularly want to run a big stretch. So I'm looking to drop to a 15" and see how it goes from there as I can also drop it on its arse then too!
maerijn
that looks awesome! no way, i think the wheels look great, what type are they?

Its definitely nice to see it all in one piece again! The wheels do suit it very well but there's a few issues with them. 1 they're basically a fancy banded steel so the weight on them is ridiculous😂 2 because of the size of them and the fact the wide arches aren't just a hollow thin arch they scrub really badly on the front unless I run it at the height it is in those photos. Which is pretty high on the coilover settings, which brings me to my last point 3 it handles awfully on them 😂 i dont know if its the weight of them in general or a mixture of it being so high on the coilovers but it never felt planted when it was driven. So I'm basically looking to drop to a lighter weight 15" still with some nice dish of some sort though or at least that's the plan

enots
**UPDATE 24/02/21** So even though the shell has had arches welded on to it the bodyshop that did it decided rather than cut the original outer arch away and leave alot of clearance in the rear arches, they would instead just fill it with filler/fibreglass 🙄 As I've decided to do it properly this time round i spent the weekend cutting said arches to pieces to increase the amount of clearance I have in them. Its basically going to be a very basic arch tub of sorts but will mean I gain at least an inch and a half of tyre clearance so I keep the 8j on the rear at a zero offset. Really glad I actually did it as suprise suprise just like the sills they had "fixed" they had just fillered over a rotten driver side arch as you can in some of the photos the different layers of rusty metal I was finding! This is how the arches have always been... you can see the huge lip on the left of the photo and then the original arch has been pushed out to meet the metal over arches. And thats how I left it off for the weekend, still needs tidying up but you can see the extra room/clearance ill now have once its all back together. Drivers side was the same but uncovered all the rotten arch once I started cutting into it.
Socks
So pleased you updated this. Looks sick this thing, you just have to finish it! Needs a bigger wing on the back too, to go with the hugely aggressive styling. 😉

Definitely something I'll be looking into once its all back road worthy!
enots
** UPDATE 15/05/21** Bit slow since the last update due to various family issues/change in job and general lack of motivation due to covid, but finally sold the big old banded steels off the car and picked up some new wheels yesterday. I've dropped from a 16" to a 15" but stuck with the same width and offset as before. Much prefer the new wheels and obviously alot lighter! Hoping to crack on with this over the next few weekends now and get somewhere with finishing tubbing the rear arches then it's a few final bits to the bodywork and paint 🤘🤘
enots
**UPDATE 21/11/21** Well tubbing the arches threw some problems/decisions to be made with the car. During welding because of the heat the filler on the arches cracked, I was expecting this which wasn't the issue the problem was once again down to the previous bodyshop who had done all the work. The rear arches had around an inch of filler on top of them which also followed up the whole of the rear quarters 🙄 Upon removing all of said filler I kept finding more and more problems. More rust, the original arch folded over against the new arches had started rusting the new ones, the original gt side trims had been screwed into the quarter panels with wood screws then just plastered with filler to hide them, and some awful welding also hidden by it all. Part of me at this point was thinking of selling up because I couldn't be bothered with even more work. But I've ordered a new arch for the one side and I'm going to buckle down and try and get it sorted over winter. Few pics of the mess This is how much filler/plastic/rot/woodscrews😂 was removed Filler was literally slapped on everywhere Going to aim to keep the shape of these metal arches as much as possible as they were blended in alot smoother before and I prefer the look of them like this! Busy few months for me ahead!
Pikey009
Shit the bed mate fair play to you. If you don't save her she will end up for parts like most others.

enots
**UPDATE 28/11/21** Another weekend of finding more rot/dodgy repairs by the previous bodyshop. After pulling the rears apart I had to investigate the fronts and it was just as bad. Rotten folded metal folded against the "newer" metal. A shit load of filler and more woodscrews pulled off I got to see what I had to work with/repair. Pictures speak a thousand words anyway Wood screws through the original wing and in to the fibreglass skirt and some fantastic "welding" hidden with a mixture of fibreglass/filler anyway all 4 corners are fully stripped now so it's a matter of working out the best route to take with the repairs and to crack on! As it stands as I left today until next weekend 🤘 Edited November 28, 2021 by enots

enots
**UPDATE 6/3/22** Slow with the updates but finally got around to getting some fresh metal on the car this weekend. It's all a learning curve for me as I'm basically trying to teach myself to weld along the way too so alot of trial and error but I'm happy with how it's gone so far! Couple more bits to finish welding up on the arch and plate up the filler cap then I'll be cutting the drivers side out to do the same so they're both identical. Ended up with a bit of warpage but ill sort that once the fuel filler is patched up
