samcole
I wonder if anyone can help, at the weekend I went to fit a tubular manifold to my glanza, when I was undoing the manifold nuts to the cylinder head, I noticed the stud closest to the gearbox was just attached to a piece of the head what was broken off, it is not leaking oil or anything, just the exhaust is blowing there. Has anyone had this before and can this be welded? Any help will be much appreciated
jimmymac101
Someone at somepoint has over tightened it and caused this, starletsr? Is in the same situation at the moment sand we had to travel and buy a new head! May pay to invest in a non cracked head James
samcole
Thanks for reply, I did think this would be easier but preferd the idea of fixing/ rebuilding mine to save all the hassle of trying to find one. Also obviously I will need to remove the head so will need to replace the gasket, is there a head gasket out there what stands out from the rest or will a id-workz one do fine? Cheers
jimmymac101
Id workz would be good choice or a toyota oem one James Edited October 5, 2013 by jimmymac101

RobSR
You can get it welded if you find a decent welder. if not yea buy another and dont over tighten the studs.
AdamB
You can get it alloy welded if you can find someone who will take the job on, quite a common problem tbh. Cut slots through the webs inbetween the exhaust runners to relieve the stress in the flange.
samcole
Brilliant, will strip it down Monday and see if I can find someone to do it, thanks

AdamB
Theres no gains to be had unless you know exactly what your doing, power is made or lost at the cylinder head. For this reason is why modifying cylinder heads is an expense job!I don't see the need to touch the cylinder head until 340bhp anyway. lukEp
Usually this happens due to a warped/none surfaced manifold flange plate and not over tightening, make sure you have the manifold surface checked and if required skimmed as well or you could end up in the same situation after you've fixed it.
