MattyCD
brakes and suspension should be the your first worries for a new tubby
Guest Enzo
if your upgrading the turbo its a good choice to upgrade everything elsea full list rattled of the top of my head would includemanifold + decat (£150 autobahn jobbies with a few braces welded in for piece of mind)exhuast clutchintercoolerinjectors and fual pump aswell as ecu dependant on what turbo you go for
turbodreams
exhuast - going to order a blitz nurspecclutch - what would you reccomend?intercooler - in the middle of ordering blitzinjectors and fual pump aswell as ecu dependant on what turbo you go for - what turbo options are open to me? Guest Enzo
clutch- it depends on your power goalyou need to establish that before deciding what turbo your after. internals are good for 230bhp on the right tune
turbodreams
atleast 250bhp id be happy with.
Guest Enzo
in that case you could get to that power on a td04 or a larger turbo like tdo5-16 or 18g or gt28rs the latter two would be laggy as hell on a standard engine.forging would be recomended aswell as some porting work to bring down the lagg a wee bit.have a look into clutches made by orc, os giken or button clutches. and while you have the gearbox off it would be good to get an uprated helical or clutch type differential to put the power down
turbodreams
fuck alot of work then? looking into the td04, best option me thinks.
starbogt
with the TD04 you'll need some fabrication skills or go for WickedEP's Hybrid td04 option that fits with a standard radiator. or do what I did and source everything second hand for next to nothing and get a second hand td04L off scoobynet. With the correct settings you can easily achieve 270+bhp with this turbo. It's very well matched to the 4efte engine really. A lot of people forge the engine above 230bhp but a few people from different countries have found a good condition engine can handle power above 300 on standard internals quite reliably if tuned correctly. Any questions can be answered relatively easy now as there are plenty of people now that have done this conversion although I scrapped my Aircon some do keep it.Andrew
Guest Enzo
yea its alot of work, if you set a power goal of 250bhp doing it properly requires thousands.if you were to aim for 220+ then you could get away without an lsd and that figures alot more atainable as you dont have to go through the expensive process of forging
turbodreams
not much wrong with 220, to be honest, im not exactly going to be going on the track with it. id even be happy with 200 to be fair.
Guest Enzo
200bhp is atainable on the standard turbo but it wont last for long at that pressure - the turbos aproaching what . . .12 years oldthats why hybrids are popular as they can get to that power without sacrificing too much of that low end grunt and also providing up top too.we could have a decent chat about it when we meet up mid week perhaps
turbodreams
that would be great mate, cheers. al give you a shout thursday.
Glanza_cl
this is from Toby at toy tuning and i found it really helpful:This is what we recommend for a good 200hp setup with brakes and chassis to match â?¢ Hybrid CT9 â?¢ Free Flow Mild Steel Manifold â?¢ Decat â?¢ Cat Back system 2.5inch The car is now expelling gases more efficiently. â?¢ Relocated Air Filter to front bumper â?¢ Heat Reflective tape for Inlet Track â?¢ Raise the Rear of the Bonnet with washers â?¢ Front Mounted Intercooler (wrap throttle body side pipes with heat reflective material) â?¢ Uprated Thermostat â?¢ Rad Cap Car is now breathing more efficiently â?¢ Consider better radiator and breather/header tank if planning on track days Car is now cooling more efficiently â?¢ New Spark Plugs (consider colder grades) â?¢ New HT leads â?¢ Inspect Dizzy/Rotor Ignition system now works â?¢ Uprated Fuel Pump â?¢ Fuel Pressure Regulator Kit â?¢ Engine Management/Piggy Back/Fuel Controller (depends how far you want to go) â?¢ Rolling Road Session Car now fuelling adequately â?¢ Uprated clutch with flywheel is poss â?¢ Quickshift Kit â?¢ LSD if poss Car can now handle power and you can shift quicker This should net you around 180bhp - 200bhp on 18 psi max. This then leaves the brakes and chassis which will need to be sorted to cope with the power. I would recommend at a min: â?¢ Uprated Front Disks â?¢ Uprated Pads â?¢ New OEM Rear Pads â?¢ Braided Brake Lines â?¢ Cusco BMCS â?¢ Dot 5.1 Toyota Fluid (bleed dry and refill) You can now stop! â?¢ Coilovers / Fixed height shocks with springs â?¢ Front and Rear Strut Braces â?¢ Panhard Rod â?¢ Lower Arm Bar â?¢ Anitlift kit â?¢ Check and replace worn bushes â?¢ Good tires Power to ground greatly improved. Thatâ??s a basic list of what we recommend, obviously there are many more parts that will net you a good handling car that can stop with power to match but that should give you a good idea on where to take her pending needs. This doesn't take into account basic servicing which is a must, make the most out of what you have no point adding mods until the car is up to scratch
starbogt
A TD04 at 0.8bar will give around 200bhp I did my complete conversion for less than 900quid with fuel controller.
ecksjay
listen to the man, his gt is awesome.AWESOME.hows she running mate? also, ye, 200bhp in a starlet will feel very nice, as they dont weigh much at all, thats where they excel really. lightening the car up by removing heavy bits and bobs (air conditioning etc) will improve performance, as will going for regular poops.
