dingle
im looking to buy a starlet turbo and i found a nice glanza on autotrader in good condition apart from owner says it occasionally pops out of 5th gear. is this a serious problem? new gearbox or something like a selector?cheers
Glanza_cl
will either be a dying clutch (which isnt so bad)or it could be the synchros in the gearbox (which is bad) if it's the synchros you will need to get new ones put in or find a new gearbox.
Curtis
to be honest the gearbox will have to come off regardless if it is one of those, gearboxes are not to dear if you find a 2nd hand one, if you don't mind me asking how much is the car
dingle
damn, well how much would a new clutch be? more than 400? you wudnt be able to tell if its the synchros or the clutch until you take the gearbox to pieces, correct? the car is for sale at £2000. looks in very good condition should be priced higher but because of the pop out in fifth its got a lower price. i dont know if im allowed to do this but heres the link to the sale. cheers for your help guys!http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...icleRegLetter=P
Glanza_cl
link doesnt work. you may as well uprate the clutch if your gunna change it so yeah around 300-400depending on the clutch, but if it's popping out of 5th it could well be the synchros
andy.i
i got a clutch and got it fitted for less than £100!
dingle
try this:http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/c...rch_full=SEARCHits the first advertso theres no way to tell if its the synchros or the clutch unless i take the gearbox apart?
Curtis
why don't you try this one bud, to be honest i don't know y but it looks a bit dodgyhttp://www.ukstarletclub.com/forums/index....showtopic=20300
Flipside
could the clutch cause it to be stuck in gear after all the popping out of gear?
Glanza_Ragger
popping out of gear and crunching into gears is usually the synchros mashed, in which case it'll work out cheaper to source a 2nd hand box
