Wiring oil pressure and temp. gauge

Hi,

I need some help with wiring up my oil pressure and temperature gauges.

It has 4 wires each.

1 signal

1 Ground

1 12v

1 illumination

Now the Signal and Ground I understand.

The illumination should be spliced in the wire which feeds the daytime running lights.

The 12V should be spliced in the wire which is the "On" function on the ignition barrel.

Does anybody know which collours these wires are?

Is the 12v just for power to the gauge or does this illuminate the gauge also?

Is the illumintation wire only to illuminate the gauge or does it act as a dimmer for when you turn on your lights?

Not quite sure, they are STRI gauges.

All it says in the manual is 1x signal, 1x ground, 1x 12v "on" and 1x illumination.

I'm guessing that it has illumination and 12v separated.

Well you can check what they do by holding them over the battery mate.

Is there a sender unit with these or do the wires go directly to the sensor?

Nope, no sender unit.

Signal wires are directly on the sensors.

Cool check what the 12v and illumination do but if the 12 is just for power to the circuit and ill is for the light then just wire both to the back of the cig lighter.

finally had the time to check it out, 12v is also illumination.

The yellow illumination wire is a dimmer.

Right so wire the 12v to the back of the cig lighter and the dimmer wire to the sidelight switch wire behind the steering wheel cowling.

on my defi's they are this way round

1 signal

1 Ground

1 12v

1 illumination

Defi's

2. ignition live/ switch 12v when ignition is turned on

2. ground

2. 12v battery feed- constant

2. illumination - take an wire that comes on when you tuurn on your sidelights

you can take the ignition live and constant live from you stereo, live is normally yellow and switched is red

ground well thats any point you can earth the cable too or use an existing earth wire, if your desperate use the stereo one

sidelight feed is green i think coming from the side light stalk

The wire coming down your steering column that has 12v when sidelights are on and 0v when they are off. You can put your live and earth to the cig lighter and signal to the sensor ofcourse.

Yeah sidelight feed is green or green black like broony said its one of the chunkier wires in tht plug just test it with a multimeter and make sure u test it with the indicators on I made that mistake and my indiglo dials were flashing when i turned right haha.
