  1. Mine was slightly tighter when I done an engine swap, but all my gear changes are fine. I'll take pics of my bracket and do some basic measurements if this might help?

Sorted now thanks, I must have bent the bracket slightly so it wasn't engaging fully, I've temporary packed it on washers to get it going, but will look at bending it back when I get chance.

  2. I am having problems with selection at the moment, had the engine and box out swapped engines and have put a new clutch in, then put it all back together. The only thing I have changed is that I slackened the bracket that fixes the cables to the box. I think I must have reset it in the wrong place. First run out I couldn't get 1st and 2nd. After adjusting it, now I can't get 5th either.

I'm hoping that with a bit more fiddling with the bracket, I will get it back working.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a technique to realigning this bracket?

I'll report back if this fixes it...

  3. Hi there,

Just wondering as I start to prep a 5efe engine to drop into my starlet, are the head gasket sets the same? I'm going to need inlet and exhaust gaskets, which I'm sure are pretty much the same anyhow. But are the head gaskets the same? I can buy a 4efe set nearly as cheap as I can buy just the inlet and exhaust gaskets for the 5efe. I figure if they are the same I might as well get the 4efe set and do the valve stem oil seals etc before I drop it in...

    Any thoughts?

  4. AVO now do replacement shocks for the starlet, just ordered some so will let you know how they go. Had them in a Nova before, absolutely awesome handling, very reliable, and excellent customer service (they replaced a bent one after a little bump for next to nothing). Even better, I think they are British made?

Been running Konis for about five years now, they don't seem to last long before they go all po-goey. Fronts have been replaced twice, and they ain't that cheap. Nasty tendancy to kangaroo hop on really bumpy roads :)

There was a guy from NZ selling D2's cheap recently... £430ish Worth a look

  5. Cheers fella's!

Had an amusing conversation with the local motor factors, they thought I was trying to wind them up.

The local toyota spares bloke is pretty good, I'll give him a shout, ta

  6. Does anyone do re-conditioned rear calipers for the ep82?

Bought a second hand rear beam, one of the calipers is like brand new, the other has perished seals and for some reason the handbrake adjuster won't screw back in? Had the whole piston apart last night and couldn't budge it...

Re-con's seem like the best option unless seal/piston kits are available?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Cheers, Tom

  7. Good stuff!!!

Looks well on the stages i must say and looks low as hell in the first two pics (take it looks that low because of the heavy cornering being taken :D )

What cage have you got in it?

Standard tte springs in it :) I've got a pic from that event where the rear tyre looks as if its being rolled off the rim!

Err... the cage is from a pug 309. I looked at the cages available at the time, and people were asking 6-700 quid! A friend was scrapping his pug so I bought it off him and shoe horned it in!

It wasn't a perfect fit so don't all rush out and buy one, there was some fairly major fabrication work to get it in. It does a job, and thankfully I havent had to test it yet. Its there if I need it tho...

  8. Here's a couple more in action from an event last year...

A 400 mile event, starting at midday and finishing at 6am the morning after! Restricted entry to under 1400cc n/a cars with basically standard engines, perfect for starlets!Yorkshire-enduro-71.jpg

    Yorkshire-enduro-31.jpg

    Yorkshire-enduro-141.jpg

As for the spec... its pretty basic really!

In the engine department its all standard, just a KnN air filter and a decat. I run her on Optimax but not sure if it makes much difference really..? Corolla mani anyone...please!?!

In the cabin its caged up, sparco buckets and luke harnesses, and of course every rally car needs an Ipod and chameleon head unit for those long night events...!

Steering and stopping, once again pretty standard, koni's set as hard as they'll go, and the standard tte springs (anyone know what spring rate they are?). Brakes are standard with mintex 1144 pads on the front, and specially re-lined shoes on the back, hard as hells steps! I wouldn't mind a glanza rear beam if anyone knows of one for sale?

Sump, tank and fuel lines guarded, although most of the time I don't have the sump guard fitted as its a tad over built for normal road use! Most of you would cry if you saw the state of the underside of this car, its soooo not pretty!!!

I'm sure most of you will agree, there are not many cars that can corner like a starlet! Its an awesome feeling lining up at the start line of a road rally with a 160bhp pug 205 starting a minute behind you...then never seeing them again until the finish!

Be good to see more people out on the road/endurance rallying scenes in general, but especially in starlets!

    Tom
