  1. Hi all,

I've had an SR as a runabout for a while now and it's been ok. Now looking for something a bit more exciting due to insurance coming down now. I like the look of the GT, but a couple of things concern me:

    1) Parts and garages - are parts easily available and have people had trouble with garages? I dont have the time or know how to fix things which go wrong so it will be done by a pro - i dont want to wait weeks for parts!

    2) Reliability - turbo strapped to a small engine - quite a lot of strain i imagine. Are there any common reliability issues?

What do people think of this, its a long way from me so i'll probably leave it, but seems like a good example on face value: http://www.petrolheads.co.uk/sales/392731.htm

I like the Glanza too but the GT looks a more butch. I also hate the interior, its the same as the SR, manky grey.

    Cheers

  3. The inlet mani ive read you guys talking about - do you need an uprated exhaust system to increase the air flow throughout the engine? I thought that there was no use increasing it at one end if it cant get out the other? Ive got an sr with the standard exhaust system - would fitting the corolla mani be a worthwhile little mod bearing in mind that im not planning on uprating the exhaust setup?

Soz for asking so many questions lol!

  4. i wouldnt need to worry bout masking if im just gunna sand it back and repair damage - leave that to the pros! Its got a bit of rust in the rear arches thatd need sorting. Im speculating too much need to take it to some places and find out if its worth doing.

  5. Its the silver version Mikey, so thatll probs cost more due to laquer etc. Its got a bit of rust so the prep would involve me sorting that out first, sanding it back, filler etc. Theres a guy that does that sort of work from his house - restores classic cars etc - in my home town so next time im back ill see what he says. Works for cash so makes the job cheaper!

You getting your quote today Idrees?

  6. Wandering if many of you guys have had your motors fully resprayed. What kinda money would i be looking at you recon? My SR is quite tatty only bought it for a cheap runabout but getting fond of her and wanna get her back up to stratch. Its had some dodgy painting done in the past, probs from a can, and a bit of rust round the arches. Bought her cheap so dont mind spending a bit on her. Got 80,000 on the clock so not sure if its worth while now? Imagine itd me much esier keeping the same colour because then the car has to be stripped down less, dont have to remove engine etc.

  7. Recently bought myself an SR to serve as a cheap runabout and came here to get some info on a couple of things. Love the SR, great fun to drive, insurance is ok because its not very fast etc. Noticed most of you seem to drive Glanzas. What is the performance like compared to the SR? Whats the insurence group and is it effected by it being an import? I like the look of them and thinking about having a closer inspection because ive fallen in ove with Starlets!

  8. The speedo on my funky new SR is a bit dodgy - says im doing 40 when im closer to 30! Dont really mind because it got me more money of the purchase when haggling  . Can it get recalibrated by a professional or can i get myself down to a scrappy and pull a 'new' one out of another Starlet? The second would probably be preferable because costs less and i like mucking around scrap yards!

    Cheers

  9. Hey guys my first post on the site. Recently bought myself a rather tatty, but great fun silver SR. It didnt come with an owners manual and I need to find out the recommended tyre pressures for the standard 15'' wheels and tyres. Any help much appreciated!
