Its a carburetor engine. I disconnected the exhaust at the manifold, the problem still occured. I checked the timing, everything seems fine. I thought then maybe it was an over fuelling problem?

Hello, having an issue with my toyota starlet 2e engine. When I start the car the exhaust manifold gets hot almost straight away and proceeds to get hotter. Has anyone seen this issue ? Thinking the exhaust is blocked or a timing issue ? I would appreciate any help

Hello, having an issue with starting my car. I have an 1986 Starlet 1.3 as a project. I fitted the engine everything is wired and plumbed up. When I turn the key nothings happens. I fitted a new battery, checked all fuses, check all the power and theres power going to everything as it should like the starter, alternator, ignition etc. Connected the starter to a battery and it spins up no problem. Would it be an earth problem?
Would anyone have an idea of what else it could be ?
Appreciate any feedback!

I tried a few different things to no avail. I notice a small oil sweep/leak where the cylinder head and block meet. I thought maybe the headgasket was fitted upside that was causing the problems. I got someone to fit one for me 2 weeks ago so I stripped it down today. Is this the right way it goes? It only seems to fit one way ?
