  1. @ Kevink, yeah disconnected the battery while doin the job! driving fine, also took the slack outta the accelerator cable. should be alright, have an induction kit that i cleaned with a cleaner kit so we shall see!! thanks a million!

@ Tintin SR, thanks dude checked it all out, so im happy enough with it now!!! throttle cable was slack before now it is just perfect but thanks for your help! appreciate it!! thanks!

  2. hey sorry again to the admins but i couldnt find a certain bit o info!

Fitted my corolla manifold last night, absolutely savage but did anybodys sounds like it could be drawing air from somewhere? is that noise normal? i thought it might be because the corolla manifold is thinner so might be more noisey? i checked all the connections, used brand new gaskets from toyota etc and it just seems very noisey at tickover, but not a normal noise? also did anybody elses idle rise after fitting? mine is up to nearly 1000rpm? normally 850? :)

    thanks

  3. Just for anybody interested in a 4E-FE engine, i am currently in possesion of a 1996 4E-FE engine with 75K on it, i am undecided as wether to rebuild it, it is burning oil so replacement piston rings, head gasket and valve stem oil seals are required. i dunno wether to build it up and sell it as a reconditioned unit (it is being stripped to pieces, cleaned and rebuilt totally) or to sell it for parts. i was going to polish the rocker cover and port/polish the head for my own car..... anybody interested in a full engine or bits pm me.

  4. Gilliano i will be sorting alloys soon, they are very expensive over here in ireland tho, cheapest is like 500 euro for a set of 15's wit tires!

Nic sorry dude those rubstrips came off months ago, went straight in the bin!! sorry man!! :(

  5. Just some pics! Got my backbox done as per last post, also got a front lip off a golf, and a smaller front reg.

Front bumper still needs some work, doin all of it together, soothin, meshin paintin etc. hopefully within 2 or 3 weeks! might get a little extra splitter at bottom that sticks out, like a racer one? happy with this at mo tho!

  6. not sure which fusebox it is in, check the little pics and you should be able to find it!

as regards to the airbag, can you not switch yours off with the key? some cars have like

a little ignition barrel on the passenger side of the dash where the door closes, with the option of turning off the airbag??

if not then its dash out time! you could try reach it from the glovebox hole but you wont be able to see what you are doing?

    hope this helps!

  7. Quick update, got backbox done in welding class! very proud of myself! having problems with memory card reader at moment so pics will follow soon. its a 3.5" Savage universal box that i got from a guy in my course! doin a double take on de-cat at moment, its very loud with just the backbox done but i am still bein advised to do it so we shall see! might make a full exhaust tho because the starlet has one of the simplest exhausts i have ever seen!! it sounds sweet, that lovely deep grumble at idle and crazy roar with the go pedal! there is a 'silencer' with it, but it just gives it a higher pitched scream, almost like a type R on acid VTEC! im a bit hyper at mo, kinda locked out of my face as i type! ha!

  8. thanks guys, ill remove the cat and see how it sounds first! i might still cut out the middle box and make up flanges so i can remove it if i wish? hopefully ill get that done in the next 2 weeks. one of the guys on my apprenticeship course is bringing in a backbox 2mo so hopefully if it is alright i will get it!

  9. I am undecided whether to make my decat standard 1 3/4" or a slightly larger 2". i am thinkin larger because of the volume of air inside a cat and centre box (also being removed), will need to be matched otherwise it might cause more back pressure? any body have a decat on an n/a? what diameter pipe is yours? i only have a standard exhaust too.

  10. anybody ever made up custom subframes for fixed back buckets? if so do you have any drawings or dimensions? gonna weld up a custom set but dont wanna do all the figureing out of sizes angles etc etc etc!

  11. Hey guys just wondering if doing a de-cat on the starlet will cause any ill-effects? I have read bout fuel cut off but is that turbo specific like over-boost or can fuel cut affect the N/A? I am in 1 of my college sections of my apprenticeship and we have a fully loaded workshop with full access to students ( :) ) so im gonna whip up a de-cat for the starlet. thinking of taking the silencer centre box also, any opinions? ill be doing a backbox at the same time. not going for a full system, cant afford it so the de-cat will be the standard 1 3/4" diameter. Any thoughts/opinions/experiences will be most welcome! ;) Thanks

  12. right explanation it is then....had a big discussion with a top tuner in the UK, and this was the outcome:-

The best possible exhaust for a four stroke engine is a large bore straight piece of pipe which is cut to the correct length. The reason it needs to be the correct length is because pressure waves (caused by the exhaust valve operating) in a pipe always cause and are greatly effected by acoustic harmonics (like a pipe in a church organ)â?¦ If anybody ever complains "I put a big exhaust on and I lost power/torque" this is because the exhaust designer didn't do the harmonics calc's properly, not because the engine lost back pressure.

So would a de cat pipe and backbox be best for the n/A then? leaving the rest of the system standard? im thinking of cutting out the centre box and cat and replacing with a straight pipe, but weld flanges on so i can pt the cat back for the NCT

(irish MOT, every 2 years tho!)? i am reading very diff opinions here, slightly confusing! i dont want to lose torque/power by putting a 2" full system on, maybe just help the system along?

  13. Just looking throught looks like good idea with relocating the filter was it much affort + your 'nass car' style intake pipe :D

Also I've got the same steering lock as you :)

Hey thanks man! no not too much effort! once you remove all the old airbox crap you have loads of room to

play with. all it is is a 3" pipe, universal filter and a 3" to 2" silicone pipe! it sounds great giving it socks! ;)

the little air feed takes air from behind/underneath LH side of bumper. Thinkin of relocating battery into

the boot, i dunno yet? ;)
