  1. Well an update here. Seems I got to the cause of this. I have removed my power steering and with that I've looped a few items. Including the vacuum lines at the back of the inlet. Today I've removed it and just blocked these vacuum points at the back. Seems this is causing the wax-stat to stay open making it to idle very high. So lesson learned, if you remove the power steering, you should be just able to have the vacuum lines stay in place, or block them. I think in the end I'm going to restore them to default, just the vacuum lines.

    More items it resolved

    • Intermittent bouncing rpm whilst applying the clutch
    • Intermittent hanging/raising of rpm whilst changing gears

  2. Hi All, been a long while, but still owning my blue tom's EP. Looking for a bit of advise or ideas. Seems I have the throttle body wax-stat issue. This causes the car to idle around 800-1000 rpm to high whilst warm, since it's allowing additional air into the inlet. Closing the hole (bottom left inside the throttle body) with a finger to the wax stat whilst warm it's idling fine around the default rpm.

Now I've  come across a few posts to just remove it, where it's been said the cold start to be a bit more tricky. Looked for replacing (new) the part or the complete throttle body. But that's going to be silly prices if even able to be ordered. Any one had this on here, if so are there any known ways to fix this without replacing?

  3. Blitz Active Clutch Parts are discontinued, any replacement for these clutches need to be Ogura since they are identical. Both of the clutches will rattle like hell since they have the additional plate. I'm driving it with the OEM bearing but it's indeed not long enough you could have issues with realing the clutch and not being able to shift. Mine is whining from time to time it's only the release bearing but had some challenges when I got the clutch on.

  4. Well, seems it has been a proper while.......The EP is still here and overall it's still in a good shape. Over the last few years I tried to finish things off, haven't been driving it much at all. Busy with the twins, busy preparing for my wedding back then, switching jobs, moving places. Where we've now come to a point where I have a proper place to work on my EP and a bit more time is on my hands.

During those years nothing much has been done to the car. Now it's in the garage for some proper tidying up and maintenance. We lived near the sea for almost 12 years, where this car sat eating salty air for over 8 years. And it wasn't nice for the car. So time to do some cleaning etc.

  5. I have the Ogura ORC309D. Apparently there seems to be a version of the 309 that you can use a standard Toyota release bearing with, obviously not this one :p It may even be the Blitz Active clutch that you can use it with (essentially a rebranded ORC309)

You can indeed run a Blitz Active Clutch with the standard release bearing. But even then you might want to buy the correct one, because mine's giving a whining noise and I had to remove the floor mats to get the clutch released. I have a cm of nothing when I press the clutch.

  6. After a long long loooooong time an update from my side :) Car is still there, in the meantime I became a father. We got twins, a boy and a girl. After that the car was feeling a bit on her own but now after some time were driving it very often again. And it still is great fun. 20th of August I've an appointment with the bodyshop to respray the Tom's bumper/Spoiler and boot as it's going to be my wedding car on the 31st of August. Also I will be fitting an FMIC after some time.

    Blitz ECU - setup

While I'm driving with a Blitz ECU now, I'm not sure which setup it has. It runs well though a bit rich. So will try to get the specs from Blitz in the US. It was always possible to get the specs of the ECU's from there. So regarding that I'm planning to upgrade it to those specs.

    Forging

Still hoping to go for a forged build next year. Not sure if I want to forge it myself or get it done. If I would like to get it done maybe seeing wether TD can sort that out for me. As the prices are good, but have to see how I'm getting my car to the UK as I can't get on the boat that easily.

    JAE

Also hoping to go to JAE next year, but the boat (Holland - UK) is a real challenge as the car is a bit to low for it. And it's often held when my kids are having birthday. We'll see, might have to raise the car a bit to get onto the boat.

  7. The car is back from the bodyshop, and she looks like new :) The car will be insured all-risks, but needed to get the car evaluated (what's the car worth), otherwise I can't get her in an all-risks insurance because of the age of her (10 years max). Normally a Starlet would has a worth of about â?¬1900, but now it's â?¬6500 for the insurance. When the weather is good I will make some new pictures ;)

  8. We hit about minus 8-10 degrees at night. The car hasn't been moved since thuesday last week. It's freezing for the last 10 days. About the car.... I hope I can get money from a fund that's especially for damage with a opponent.. But you need 2 witnesses, but the police will help in this case.

  9. Last thuesday I've been busy with the ep....

    - Fitted TRD engine mounts

    - Fitted Gearbox with Cusco LSD

    - Serviced it a littlebit

So then I had to drive 130 km's home. During the testdrive with the new gearbox I noticed something strange. Couldn't see how fast I was driving because we forgot to put the speedocable back on the gearbox. During the way home I noticed that the amount of rpm had changed. Was driving 140 km/h @ 4000 rpm. Normally you should have a rpm of around the 3200. So I rang a friend of mine and talked a bit and we think, because the gearbox is 100% sure an 4E-FTE gearbox, it contains a little extra present. A close ratio gear set, probably TRD. Because the gears are the same as listed at the website of TRD. The LSD is working fine, but not sure if I like the gearratio's..........
