Need wiring help

I just put my engine back in (1e) and i was wiring up the engine loom today but when i though i was sone there is 2 leeds spare and when ever i put the key into ignition i get no lights on the dash as I normally would, the altonator lead keeps smoking up so i changed it to the starter and it seemed ok but i still had no lights on the dash , does something else need to be grounded or what because i got no where any suggestions appreciated!! And where do the 2 spare leads go
