Hey guys, I recently had my car MOT'd (passed) but it needed a new CV joint on the front passenger side wheel. /Backgroundinfo

It's been about a week since my MOT and now apprently my driveshaft's knocking, it only clicks when I am turning whilst moving. I had a mate look at it (guy who fixed it for MOT) and he said from toyota the part would cost ~£200.

Does anyone know if I can get the part for cheaper since £200 is a bit steep for my liking (or is that the going rate?).

Cheers,

Mike

[EDIT]My Starlet is an EP82 N/A (I think), there's a pic under my name and I can post more if needed.

i had to get mine reconditioned because no parts would fit even the ones direct from toyota for my engine number! tryed about 12 sets of parts!but im sure yours will be easier to find.try euro car parts, speak to them i think they have a jap specialist in wimbledon or somewhere like that, got few bits for my car from them fairly cheap

your driveshaft isnt knocking, its a metal pole. theres nothing to knock.

your CV is knocking. you can get a new CV from camskill for about 60 quid if i remember rightly.

I thought that was what I had replaced for my MOT... Ahhh, looking at Camskill it looks like I bought an outer CV boot kit and I now need an outer CV joint kit. Does that sound reet? I wish I knew what I was talking about... There's two there, which one should I get? Also, what model is my car? It looks like an EP82 turbo with a *very* slightly different back and no scoop on the bonnet. It's also a jap import if that helps...

Cheers again!

Mike

  • 4 weeks later...

Sorry to double post, but I now (think I) know what I am meant to be buying. I am looking for an outer CV joint for the passenger side, I have a boot for it. I need to know what spline set up I am looking for, is it 23/23 or 23/30? I looked at some places and found a joint for £44.50. But need to check that I am buying the right product.

Cheers.
