ibz
As i was driving today i noticed that the temperature was in the red. so i pulled up at my mates house and let it cool down. noticed there wasnt any coolant at all in the radiator and in the expansion tank. so we topped it up with water and switched the car on to see if the radiator had popped, however it wasnt leaking from anywhere. before this had all happend my heaters never got fully hot, they were warm but never hot, so i assumed this was the thermostat and weas planning to change it but never got round to it. now that theres only water in the system the heaters have started working properly.does anyone know what could have happend. im still confused as to where all the coolant could have gone as ther doesnt seem to be any leaks.the car still drives normal, boosts fine, also doesnt smoke at all.thanks in advance for the help
Guest dominodon
Sounds like the car is might be driking a lot off water or might be a leak somewhere. when was the last time you checked it ?Get a compression test done for peace and mind you might off fryed your head gaskit..First thing to do.. check for leaksdo a compression test the test will tell you the health off the engine if its goodreplace the thermostatreplace with new coolant then bleed the system, the check coolant levels every 2 days

ibz
A cooling fault has pressurised the cooling system and forced a volume of your coolant out of the overflow pipe on the coolant bottle. You have only realised this low coolant situation when the temp gauge read high.Refill with coolant and keep a strong watch on the coolant level. That fault will still be there and the same could happen again. I've seen this with sticking thermostats amongst other things. If the car has overheated badly damage may have been caused to the engine and associated components. Hope that you caught it in time mate.Jayshall i drain all of the water from the radiator and refill it with anti freezer as at the moment its only water. would it be ok if i drove around with water as i havent got enought antifreeze at home and would need to get it tomorrow from toyota. would it do the engine harm if i drove with no anti freeze and only water for a few days
Guest Enzo
yea it will be ok just to have normal water in there dude, you only need to watch for anti freeze in the winter months when the water could freeze within the engine and expand :surrender:
