Mechanicing And Welding

Recommended Posts

hi guys.

i have no knowledge of welding and was wondering how hard it is to learn? and also how much a good mid welding set up would cost?

i have little knowledge of mechanicing just suspension ,brakes . etc.. how hard is it when you get into engine transplants and turbos? could the average person with enough willpower amd a project car crack it ?

thanks guys

i found welding alright to learn but it took me a long time to get it right and on the dirty side of thing i.e. engine transplants i found that ease to learn as i say try it and if it all goes wrong you'd know the next time

best thing to do is take your time and take loads of pictures and lably everything i have been doing it this way for a long time now and found it best way to do it

Dude, how do you think any of us learnt to do anything?

We just jump in at the deep end and do it-obviously doing the appropriate research into the subject to prevent causing any damage.

Ive gained alot of knowledge from just this site itself, just read project threads and 'How to's'. Give a few things a try for yourself.

But being safe is the most important! i.e. it gets a bit dodgy when you begin jacking the car up and being underneath. You must use axle stands and anything else you can pack around the car to prevent it falling on you.

As for welding, ive been doing a TIG welding course for the past 8 weeks or so... its a piece of piss. The hard bit is getting the right penetration into the material to make it a safe/secure weld.

welding is a piece of piss. im assuming you would be mig welding. you can pick up new welder cheap and if you get sombody to show you how to set it up and practice some welds you would be up an running in no time. as BAZ2CRAZY said there is some knowledge regarding materials and weld types but its not rocket science.
