Learning Japanese

hi all im just wondering if anyone on here speaks japanese and if so where did you learn to?its something i really fancy doing but dont know where to start.i understand its quite hard and some have said i would not be able to learn the basics from home.

I'd love to learn to speak japanese I'd also love to be able to read it because then I'd be able to translate my dvd head unit lol

This is their alphabet, and a very difficult one too! (hope it's the correct one). There must be softwares you can buy with books?

I can't imagine any part of it being easy. Speaking/read/writing. It looks faaar too much hard work. I'd stick to something like American. Looks a bit easier

ive been learnig for about 3 months now and im getting not to bad at it. the way i learned was human english for my ipod..... i know sounds rediculos but it was 4 quid and it speaks to you so that you get the right pronounciation and everything. and they dont really have an alphabet as such i.e there is no english equivilent. they use sound i.e "you" is written anata but pronounanced uh-NAH-tuh and car is kurma pronounced kuh-RU-mah must admit im finding it hard as the language of beer is taking over lol

That rosetta stone is awesome if you can get V3 with the japanese language pack. Tried russian and dutch.. Russian is SOLID !! Dutch is much easier as the alphabet is actual english letters rather than symbols.. It will be tough mate but would be awesome if you can do it.
