series70boy
Since you can't immediately login, remember that you can try logging into the Web Messenger, at least until you can restore your normal Messenger functionality: http://webmessenger.msn.com However, here are some suggestions you should check/try if you haven't already. 1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that the time and date are set. 2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the correct case (uppercase or lowercase). 3. Change your password @ https://login.passport.com/ChangePW.srf to something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again. 4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall if this is the case. 5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled). 6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the Delete Cookies button. 7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL 3.0' is checked, then click OK. 8. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following: regsvr32 softpub.dll then click OK and do the same for the following: regsvr32 wintrust.dll regsvr32 initpki.dll regsvr32 MSXML3.dll hope it gets sorted for you mate

(so easy to use my 10 year old sis could do it )and another suggestion mate if get rid of norton (i also hate kaspersky). i use AVG free which an clean and disable any virus known to man. Then when i have run AVG, i run Ccleaner (made by the same folks apparently) this then removes left over parts of viruses and discreancies on the computer and in program running systems, meaning that your computer is as clean as the day you bought it! and running almost as quick!!!!!!!!! addz
Just bumped into this thread now. I would also get rid of Norton, good for nothing.I would get Avast personally, although AVG does nigh on the same thing. If you decide to go for Avast then go on their website and download the free version - this lasts a year, but I have a keygen which gives 30 years usage
series70boy
Just bumped into this thread now. I would also get rid of Norton, good for nothing.I would get Avast personally, although AVG does nigh on the same thing. If you decide to go for Avast then go on their website and download the free version - this lasts a year, but I have a keygen which gives 30 years usage my mate swears by avast, but when my dad had avast it let in a hyper-virus called 'antivirus xp 2008' which brought 2032 other infections with it (no joke)!!!!!!!!!!! the virus can not be destroted and restarts itself in a stronger form and uninstalls one other program evry time you start the computer !!!!!! and we got recommended AVG as the only antivirus capable of containing it it and then Ccleaner to remove the contained item from the system as its the only cleaner that dosent open virus folders, thus allowing the virus to stay contained and be removed safely!!!!!Ccleaner is also the only cleaner to remove the virus 'AV antispyware' which is a self installing on computer pop up that says you are infected and keeps poping up and distracting you, when you click on the pop up it says buy av antispyware and we will destroy the infection, but actually you are paying £70 for the full virus!!!!!!!!anyways i will stop boring you all now!!!!!! :D
addz
How bizarre. I know of people, true gamers and pc geeks who support Avast 100%.I guess it's which one fancies really as Avast and AVG apparently are nearly the same (not used AVG myself to concur).I use mine in conjunction with:Windows firewall,Windows defender,Spybot search and destroyAnd Avast
series70boy
hmmmmmi also use windows firewall and defender but i have them set to disabled (as they slow down the computer) and fire them up when there is a problem with the internet and to block things from hitting the computer temporarily, then run AVG full PC scan on the fast setting to clear every thing up!!i do that even though AVG has its own firewall!!!!! double security!!
