signs car is beginning to overheat or burn oil?

hey folks,

what are signs of the engine overheating or burning oil. i drove home from work today, and noticed the bonnet was overly warm to touch, and there was almost like a burning smell, but i could be completely wrong or just paranoid.

The gauge showing oil temp sits halfway.

what should i be checking etc.

coolant level ok? unusual smoke? oil level ok? drive ok? water temp gauge at halfway??

Everything seems fine but the turbo is absolutely roasting hot. I gave it a very short blast and the heat around that area was pretty dang hot.

It will can reach up 700 degrees I think

ayee not unusal for the turbo's to glow red after a good blast. well i've seen a couple glowing lol
