10w/40 oil

I've been told to use 10w/40 oil in my non turbo starlet and was wondering if this was ok to use? or whether there are better ones out there?

but as its now winter i'd go for 5/30 s/s for those cold winter morning starts

thanks off to halfrauds tommorow then had a bad day today, car ran out of petrol as i just got to work and checked oil and thats low
