Modding engine, will I hit fuel cut?

Recommended Posts

I've got a standard Glanza and i'm about to start modding it, the first thing I've done is swap the pipes to remove the boost restriction in 1st and 2nd, which has made it a lot more fun to drive.

Next I want to get a decent exhaust and filter, but a mate has told me this will probably make me hit fuel cut, is this true, and if so, how to i stop this and have it all running perfect but safely as well?

Cheers

Nah dont worry, you will only hit fuel cut if you start messing around with boost pressure, taking out your cat and putting a wider exhaust on will do nothing but make your car breathe better and get more HP :(

Socks has done a guide to tuning starlets from standard worth a read for you and the right way to mod for more power without blowing your engine up! :D)

My glanza started touching fuel cut with just an air filter and bypass restriction. Boost pressure isnt the issue. Aslong as it doesnt go past 0.8 bar its fine. Downside is the boost creep which needs to be resolved. I'm running a full cat back system, decat, air filter, at 0.3 bar and it still gets the light to come on. But each car is different, some react differently to others.

Its alright doing breathing mods but the manifold and small wastegate are the cause of most problems. If you dont mind getting your hands dirty, do the manifold and turbo. Pretty sure there is guides on how to do so.

Thats what I hoped, but as you see some people say it will i'm a bit worried as I don't understand it all yet lol, I did read the guide I think if its the 200bhp on stock engine one?

When should I think of upping the boost etc and how do you do this safely?

Cheers

I've got a crappy cone filter on atm and the restriction removed and mine seems okay, apart from that completely standard though.

I've just been given a Greddy boost gauge but all i've got is the gauge and not the loom or sensor or whatever so need to try get one of them or a working gauge. You run yours at 0.3 bar?Thats low aint it?

And pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean do the mani and turbo? as I don'tmind fiddling with stuff haha, just don't wanna blow anything.

Gonna flush out my heater matrix sometime as the heaters arent as hot as i'd hoped :D

Hmm. So was mine lol but the light still came on. And yeah the boost is low but thats due to the boost creep. And port out the manifold. It has big restrictions in the 2nd and 3rd runner. Smoothing it all out makes a big difference. The wastegate is pretty restrictive too. Helps if you port this out too.
