running in procedure ?

Recommended Posts

When I built my forged engine I used Millers Competition Running in oil.

1. Run the car upto temp and take for 5 min drive, drop the oil and filter. (Millers CRO) - very steady drive

2. Do 50 miles and drop oil and filter (Millers CRO) - steady drive, not boosting or high rpm.

2. Do 100 miles drop the oil and filter (Millers CRO) - Using abit more power, and let the gears slow you down to bring the rings out. (bed them in better)

3. Do 250 miles drop the oil and filter (Miller CRO) - Using abit more power again, letting the gears slow you down to bring the rings out. (bed them in better)

3. Do 250 miles drop oil and filter (Millers CRO) - Again, using more power, same process as before.

4. Either another 250 miles of Millers CRO and same as above, or fill with the oil that you will be using for the rest of the engines life and kick its head in!

5. After that, regular oil and filter changes (3k max.)

Don't sit at the same RPM all the time when running in, sitting on the motorway wont do it any good. Hills are nice aswell to get a load on it, and remember to let the gears slow you down from time to time to pull the rings out.

After I had ran the engine in, I use Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5W 40 (formerly known as Silkolene Pro S) which is a fully synthetic oil

This is just the method I used, and it seems to have done the job, others will say different, but each to there own. Hope this helps!

Your best off asking whoever built the engine, as everyone will tolerence it different. And plus it may void any warranty you have

x2

I ran mine in the hard way, had it on the dyno after 400, 500 miles, runs great

Aslong as its well tolerenced, not too tight should be good to go straight off the bat mate.

However everyone has their own method of running in, so its best to choose which ever you prefer :)
