Taggy
Ok my gearbox which has got my lovely Quaiffe Diff in, has been doing my facking head in. I was going to take it out as it was jumping out of 5th gear all the time. However its developed a headache of a problem in that now its been impossible to get one of the CV cups out.The first came out no problem, but this one is completly stuck, I have taken it to a gearbox shop and had them try and get it out and still no luck, they even stuck it in a 5ton press to try and pop it out and it wouldnt come out!!!So now my problem is that i have a box thats popping out of 5th and i cant get my diff out. I have a new box to replace it but obviously i cant get the diff out!!Aside from the stuck cup the gearbox works ok, its just popping out of 5th. I am going to take it apart and swap the gears over to fix it.Can someone explain to me what i need to swap in it from my working box to the broken one. Luckily the cup which is stuck is the bell housing side so i still have access to the gears if i split it.Any advice? Edited June 15, 2012 by Taggy
jezza
If you've already tried a 5 tonne press then this suggestion may not be valid.Last time I struggled, I used an old clutch release fork as a ball joint splitter and it fitted and worked a treat. Maybe worth a try.
Taggy
Its really doing my head in, i have been trying for 2 days to get it out and it just wont budge. The only thing i can think is that somehow the circlip has come of the end and has somehow jammed its self in the spline, arggghhh! somthing that should have taken 10 mins is now turning into a right ball ache
morgey
I had this happen to me, in the end it was a case of a quick push in and a very sharp smack with a hammer and lever. The circlip had ovalated and was jamming it in!Hitting it enough might tear the circlip but I've never managed before.Best of luck dude
Taggy
Yeah I have been whacking and whacking on it all day and night and not even a press has had any luck, maybe if i whack it the other way to try and free it up like you said (off i go to the shed!)Does anyone know how to change a 5th gear selector also? Taggy
Ok look like i can change over the 5th gear without to much trouble, i dont even need to open up the box, only just the end cover!Just found a brilliant write up on taking apart and rebuilding the C52 gearbox :@http://www.ae92gts.com/ae92gts_trans_rb_1.html
