crankshaft oil seal leak

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just after a bit of advice.

Pretty good with engines ect myself but a garage built my forged engine for me so not exactly 100% on changing my drivers side crank seal as its leaking, its getting quite bad now and the garage is closed till the new year so going to do it myself.

My question is what do I need tools wise and how do I do it or is there a tread showing me how ?

Thanks in advance gents !

Cheers Aaron

You'll need to remove a few things to get access to it. From the top of my head:

Drivers side engine mount

Crank pulley

Possibly rear gearbox mount to drop the engine low enough to remove the pulley

Cambelt covers and cambelt (don't reuse the old belt)

You'll have easy access to the seal which is located on the oil pump. Don't forget to use grease on the new seal.

Are you sure it's the crank seal leaking? I'd recommended thoroughly checking the sump is sealed fully and also check that oil isn't seeping from the cam cover seal down to the bottom of the engine.

Thanks for that iddy, il be calling to do to finish paying for the cage and hopefully have some pictures of THE bonnet ;)

I've cleaned the bottom the the engine and it seems to be dripping from the inside bottom of the crank pulley whilst the car is stood idleing so I presume it must be the seal.

Cheers Aaron
