starletburkie Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) replaced the crank oil seal on cambelt side not so long ago to find it leaking more than the last one lol, have another one ordered aswell as the gearbox side one. just wondering is there anything else i could use to help seal it? I've the whole engine out of the car atm. i presume add a layer of oil to it before i put it in to seal it like you do with and oil filter? Edited January 3, 2013 by starletburkie Quote
steve-gers Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Yeah you need to lube the seal also best to check that the old seal hasn't scored your crank Quote
steve-gers Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Depends how deep it is then you would need to find out how much is acceptable then measure it. May need a polish or worse a regrind/new crank, if it's only slight though maybe new seal just needs coat of oil so it's not dry. Quote
pockrockgtti Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 You could re-positioning the seal so its not sitting on the score. Failing that you can get a special repair sleeve to fix the score. Quote
starletburkie Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 ill have to just try re position the seal Quote
pockrockgtti Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Here's the sleeve you'd need http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/bearing-units-accessories/7192156/ if your wandering how it works Quote
