conorIRLgt
Been thinking about this for a while the way all the Honda heads use 4.9 final drives and from what I can see the difference is pretty good ...is there something like this for a starlet besides the trd gear set would a final drive from another gearbox work anyone ever tryed this ? AdamB
Yes you can swap out final drives from other gearboxes although it won't make for nice driving on the motorway.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_C_transmission
conorIRLgt
Wouldn't mind that
AdamB
You want a 4.3 or a 4.7 which I believe the TRD one uses.
conorIRLgt
Looking through that link a lot of the final drives are not listed ?

rmsnoel
Thr final drive is on the shaft so u cant go from 6speed to 5speed. If your in the south have a look around for a paseo or cynos bpx. They use 4.something final drivesOr use low profile 14inch rims. Honda fcukers rev up fast but dont go anywhere fast if u see what I mean.Google gearboxman calculator to play with ratios and wheel.sizes.. conorIRLgt
Alri I get yeast your saying I just want a bit more acceleration in 4th and 5th if you get was just curious to see was this an option the trd one is about 750 euro so that's a bit extreme ...the wheel size is something I might look into tho
rmsnoel
If its just fourth and fifth change to a 5speed levin gbox. Cant mind the number but shoulnt be hard found on the search button Or glanza box

AdamB
If its just a shorter 4th and 5th you would be better off looking for a gear swap rather than a final drive swap. It's not such a good idea to mess with the entire ratio's by swapping out the final drive as this completely changes the powerband of the engine. With a setup which doesn't produce much power and produces power fairly low down the longer final drive (3.7) would be better as it keeps the engine in and around the lower rpm's to help maintain maximum power. Where as if you have like 350bhp, a shorter final drive will be better because you will be using a larger turbo which is more laggier, therefore you want to keep the engine at high rev's inbetween switching gears. Hope that makes sense lol.
conorIRLgt
Ye I think the final drive is the wrong route to take now was just an idea anyway I was comparing the effect it would have on 2 completely different engines aswell ..bit more boost will cure the problem either way
