Mirror's Help Please?

Ok, so I decided tomorrow would be a good day to colour code my mirrors. Planning on doing it myself. So i thought tonight id see if i could get the mirror apart. I managed to get it looking like this sorry mess.

Now what I wanted to know is there any way of getting the part that holds the mirror off the part that bolts to the door? (hope you get what i mean). Because id like to leave the part that bolts to the door black. Or is it going to be a case of masking that part up?

Any help would be great.

I tried to do that too but didn't get very far! It must be possible though.

If it was me i would just mask it off, saves dismantling it incase you break it or can't get it back on and scratch the fresh paint where if you masked it off it's just a peel off tape job.
