does anyone know someone who can fit a turbo?

Recommended Posts

im wating to convert my n/a starlet into a turbo. its a 4EFE engine and ive been told it is possible to convert it to a turbo. ive can get an intercooler and ct9 turbo, i just need what else i need, which mechanic you need to go to (apparantly you need a turbo expert to fit it), and is it worth it if i put a turbo on it?

any alternatives/suggestions welcome...

thanks if you reply.

chap, I've got quite a few components for converting to Turbo...check out my auction on eGay: Clicky

Soon enough, once I've replaced them, I'll have a manifold, downpipe (with modified exhaust to suit), CT9a turbo for sale too...Apart from everything mentioned here, you will need some sort of Air/Fuel management, be it a Piggyback unit like a Dastek Unichip, Apex-i SAFC or a Standalone like a GReddy Emanage Blue/Ultimate. You'll also need an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator...and sounds like about it

I'd rather stick the Starlet Turbo 4EFTE engine in. You can only run low compression on the 4EFE mate and I guess it wouldn't be much fun (about 6psi)

Buy a 4EFTE engine and stick that in :) (A mint one can be picked up for around £500 from ebay I think)

Itll work out hundreds and hundreds cheaper if you just buy a used 4efte and do a straight swap.

4efte - £500ish depending on milage

4efte ecu and loom - £30-100 depending where from

Then also you may need the turbo components such as alternator, turbo etc.All depends where you go.

Phone fensport, they will be able to sort you out everything for a conversion.engine, ecu, brakes etc etc.

As its been said, 4efes run low compression, so would be pointless adding a turbo unless you play with the internals.Which would be pointless because you may as well go out and get a stock fte lump.

Would be cheaper for a mechanic to fit it for you too, or if youre up to it , do it youre self in a weekend.

Fensport will charge about £1k for all you need, ebay all the way!

Yeah, there not cheap. But at least you can phone them and just say, "want to convert a n/a to a turbo, give me what i need" :)

If you can be assed to hunt, ebay all the way.

Just make sure you get some sort of guarantee with the 2nd hand engine if youre buying it off ebay, dont want to get it all fitted and its spun a bearing or just plain fubared :p

Don't forget you'll also need to upgrade your brakes and handling as a priority when you do a conversion. No point having the power if you can't slow down or keep the car on the road. :)

VERY wise words Mart :p
